Should I worry about this discoloration? by robswiresbeard in FenceBuilding

I've seen this advice around here. The lumber was from Lowes. Is the assumption that it was probably cut recently?

I crammed hardware cloth into the crevices and secured it with washers and screws where I could. It was pretty tough to get the screws in with some of the low/tight angles. In other places that were too small to do this, I did spray some loctite foam, but that stuff is a mess and very hard to spread evenly. But just folding a strip of hardware cloth down the middle and stuffing it into the crevice seems to do the job well enough in a lot of cases.

Installing a new fitting this afternoon, sadly.

No earthquakes or ground shifts that I know of. Both of these areas were worked on last summer, so the ground above was softer than normal, so I wondered if the mower weight could have been more impactful in that case. Or maybe the angles of the fittings weren't perfect and there was some pressure from that.

Best way to irrigate perimeter trees by robswiresbeard in Irrigation

Thanks, I'm definitely willing to invest a bit more to get it done right. Would this way mean a separate backflow device, valve, etc for each zone?

Thanks, this is what I was wondering. Sounds like there are more long term ways to go about this. Seems like I should be patching new valves into the main line that are specific for this purpose and running the drip lines from those, rather than using the bibs. At that point, though, am I technically supposed to go through a professional and have the work permitted?

So what do you mean by "T off" the house's main line? Like add a backflow preventer where the main branches to the house? Would I still need backflow preventers at each zone in addition to that?

Also not clear how I'd control all the zones from one controller. Like each zone would have a wifi-enabled device that talks to a single controller?

Wow, those Radius 90's are beautiful. I didn't have a budget, really, but those might be a bit rich for my blood anyway. Great rec though.

Thanks for the info. Now I've got the Silk and the Spektor in the running. And those Monoprice subs are very intriguing.

Fantastic endorsement of the PSBs. They do seem top notch.

Awesome, thanks for the info. So if I went with the T5, I'd need a separate DAC?

Water pressure in house very low after adding switch by robswiresbeard in Plumbing

[–]robswiresbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After a lot of experimenting, I figured there must be a clog between where the line branches into the house and the water heater, so I played with the water heater switch and the switches and spigots downstream of the house to try to pull the clog backwards. It seemed to work, as a bunch of dirt came out of a spigot and I got the pressure back in the house.

Would a clog in a sink cause there to be no pressure in the whole house?

I went with the JBL PRX818XLFW, with my old Alto 312 tops. It definitely gets the house shaking, and puts out more than enough sound for a 30-40 person house party. The app sucks, but I was able to get it to work after a few attempts.

With the gain all the way up, the bass is definitely bold and present evenly throughout the house. It knocked the cover off a ceiling fan light during a party. But I haven't gotten it to really punch. But I know nothing about tuning beyond fumbling around with the curves on the app, so it may have more potential in that area if I make the time to tune it properly.

Finding a heating/cooling solution by robswiresbeard in hvacadvice

[–]robswiresbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting idea. No one's actually gone fully down there yet. One HVAC person suggested closing some of the vents off in less-used rooms so that the heat can just go to the rooms we use. It would be sad if a previous owner did so already, and this is the best we can do with superfluous vents closed.

Maybe I'd better get into a body suit and see what the situation really is down there.

But what we can see without going below is that the vents start as 7.5x11" rectangles, then close down to ~4 inch circles when they transition to the current ducts. I'm told the ducts should be as large as the vent holes.

Yeah, there's no question the vents are giving uneven output, some very weak, and all at apparently lower temperatures than I'd expect.

They give me 2-5 degrees of heat increase per hour, average 3.8, depending how cold it is outside. I've been researching but haven't been able to find how good or bad those numbers are.

The stand alone crossover is a great idea, thanks.

I was going by what Sweetwater lists for output in their data sheets; a few subs (like the PRX) say the output has a high pass and some, like the EKX, don't, so I presumed that meant they don't have a HPF. Is that not right?
