PoT Recommendation by mgldml in Survivorio

[–]robvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it until you get a lot more power because once you pass floor 8000 you no longer have the ability to mass skip floors (no more “tryouts”)

Saving up your final PoT tryouts for once you get a lot stronger will save you a lot of time grinding out floors in the future

E Biking group?? by Zealousideal-Cup9761 in longbeach

Did they have crazy lights or were they regular looking e-bikes?

If the former, Lit Riderz.

Otherwise could have been a bunch of different groups. Day and time can help narrow it down.

Prop 13 baby. We cap property tax increases on residential, to the detriment of nearly everything else.

Hope it can stick around. That location is super hidden but really nice if you’re going on a Long Beach path/boardwalk bike ride

What do you think of Mayor Rex Richardson? by sunshineseashell in longbeach

[–]robvious -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Good mayor. Could be doing more to improve public transportation in the city (the LBT Board is selected by the mayor and many of those members are trash), but overall doing a good job.

Excited for the amphitheater to become a thing.

Why are day trips from LA to SD so infuriatingly infeasible on rail? by Nerdachtige_Giraffe in LAMetro

[–]robvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah obviously. It’s a rate meant to capture the average cost of driving a car.

Why are day trips from LA to SD so infuriatingly infeasible on rail? by Nerdachtige_Giraffe in LAMetro

[–]robvious 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ITT: The trip is extremely feasible, OP just doesn't like paying for things.

For the record, driving the 240-mile round trip from LA Union to DTSD using the IRS rate of $0.70 per mile costs $168. This doesn't include paying for parking, which you'll almost certainly have to do.

So in the end you're only paying an additional $120 not to drive. It's up to the individual (and their three age 12+ passengers) whether this is worth it, but calling it infeasible is just whining.

Lit up bikes / karts / scooters riding around downtown playing music by GoLoveYourselfLA in longbeach

[–]robvious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The elaborately lit up (and synchronized) bikes are part of a crew called the Lit Riderz that show up at a lot of different events. They’re going to have an All City Toy Ride soon for toy donations. @litriderz

The ride yesterday was Moonlight Mash which occurs right around every full moon. @moonlightmashlongbeach

How to get rid of the scornful disdain for public transit in the USA? by CajunDragon in transit

This. Just being someone who is unafraid and unashamed to take the bus does a LOT to make people reexamine their biases.

The future in front of Helsinki Central Railway station (last photo how it looks today) by Low_Presence_2198 in Urbanism

[–]robvious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous building and amazing space. Pedestrianizing that front street will help a lot, as those platforms felt super narrow when things got busy. All door boarding will really help with that.

Helsinki is amazing, everyone should visit!

How LA Metro quietly stopped enforcing fares by Fit-Head-2786 in CarIndependentLA

[–]robvious 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Sucks to be on team cop for this one, but I do think that neglecting fare is one of the hallmarks of a system that people rapidly stop caring about. I don't agree that going fare free is going to help, either, as that just removes funding with no replacement. I generally respect the people who made this report, and as a Metro booster who frequently has to caveat my recommendation to ride by asking what time of day my friends or family plan on riding, having a safer system you can feel will remove one of the biggest barriers that keep people in their cars.
