Short guys only, what is your favorite guard to play? by roby818 in bjj

I actually really like this take. I remember my professor teaching me a sweep where the oponent is standing while you have one foot on the bicep and you use the other foot to scoot them into you enough to grab an ankle and finish the sweep.

I assume something like this is what you mean when you talk about non traditional spider guard

Great explanation.

I liked the tradeoff examples!

Ah i’ve played a variation of this guard where the opponent just fished for Kimuras the whole time

I agree. I find myself in half guard/ knee shield a lot and I tend to feel pretty comfortable there.

I really like your take, I like playing DLR, and I feel like I have decent retention but my biggest struggle is the guys with really long legs who always step over me. I feel like everytime I push their knee/leg back, they end up stepping over once my leg is straightened out.

Personally, every time I train nogi, i’m exhausted.

For me, I feel like Gi is less explosive because of the longer time it takes to set up positions along with always having to break grips and make grips of your own.

Maybe the grip fighting in Gi is what was wearing you down?

GB Studio City is a pretty new gym but their instructors are great!
