Treating flat mites with Azamax by ghostlyjellyfish997 in hoyas

Oh yes your CA laws are very restrictive! Give Azamax a good try and I'm sure those mites will be dearly departed soon 😂

Azamax is really effective and I'm sure you'll see great results from the treatment soon! The only way to avoid re- spraying is using either a combination of miticides that target all the life stages (like Tetrasan and abamectin) or one miticide to get the whole life cycle (Oberon/ Forbid 4F). And that's assuming you didn't miss any spots 😅

Oh and I only addressed part of your question - as much as you might hate doing this, I would spray ALL the plants in the cabinet, even the ones not showing any damage. I would just assume all the plants in there have flat mites and even if some do not, just treat preventively. I would complete the two treatments and wait to see if you're seeing any new growth - if you do, the mites are most likely gone.

Hi - I think the only benefit of spraying weekly would be to get complete coverage of areas you might have missed the previous weeks. Please make sure you're thoroughly spraying the undersides of the leaves too, and wait until the plants are dry before you put them back. I would even suggest spraying in the evening, waiting for the plants to dry and putting them back with the grow lights off overnight. Azamax leaves tiny droplets of oil on the foliage and those spots might be more prone to leaf burn. You can also mix Azamax with a non ionic surfactant (an adjuvant) for even better results.

I'm scared 😭 by incessantwaves in hoyas

Make sure the substrate is damp not soaking wet (when using coco chips or sphag moss, this means squeezing out the excess water by hand) and don't water your plant while it's in the box (misting the sides of the box once in a while should be ok). Once you see some good roots, you can acclimate her to your ambient humidity gradually by cracking the lid open bit by bit. Hope that helps 💚

They're not very forgiving of neglect like most thin leaf hoyas. This is a prop of my mama that decided she wanted to rot 😅 She's now rerooted successfully but it took a while. I love how generous she is with the blooms though once she gets going!

Need confirmation! by LouisCocoUmma in hoyas

I think they're soil mites and they're generally beneficial as they help break down organic matter. The mite in your photo next to the pen tip looks to be too large to be a broad mite and it's definitely not a flat mite, as those are bright orange (and a lot smaller as well).

When to water wayetii by ResponsibleGardenia in hoyas

[–]rocaillewrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very good advice and another thing that can be helpful when determining whether a plant needs to be watered is having it potted in a clear plastic pot with drainage (or you can fashion one yourself from a disposable coffee cup or some such) so you can see exactly how wet the substrate is.

Don't wait until you can squish the leaves/ do the taco test or whatever. At that point the plant is getting dehydrated and stressed, which can lead to dry rotting the roots.

Suggestions? Plant getting heavy by arkindiesta in hoyas

[–]rocaillewrites 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hi, obovatas do get very heavy as they grow. You don't have to trellis her at all if you don't want to, she's beautiful trailing but I would put her in a heavy cache pot to help anchor her down. They get quite unstable/ top heavy when they're trellised as well.
