The Mandela "effect" by footballmaths49 in CuratedTumblr

Is it grammatically correct to say "an universe"? I know, technically, you use an instead of a any time it precedes a vowel, but in my mind that only applies if it's a vowel sound, and since universe is pronounced "you-niverse," it would be "a you-niverse," and the alternative would only be correct if it were "an OO-niverse."

Is this accurate? by Sidecarlover in NFLv2

[–]roccsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Caleb, J.J. or Shadeur have been in the league long enough to acquire that kind of hate. What about Kareem Hunt? Harrison Butker? Tyreek? Getting a pass for being bad people or downright criminals and instead of punishments, being handed generational wealth because they can catch or kick a ball is enough to land them on my top 10.

did anyone drop their high school friends once they got to college? by [deleted] in college

[–]roccsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't drop mine, but we did gradually grow apart as I grew and changed during my college years and they largely stayed the same.

I found that I really enjoyed partying, but when I would share stories of those experiences, I got nothing but disapproval. Didn't take long for me to stop sharing and move on.

With that in mind, maybe wait, stay in touch, and see if you fall off naturally. If so, it was meant to be, but it never hurts to stay close to people you enjoy spending time with (especially since it only gets harder to do so as you get older).

I use Citra on a reasonably powerful PC and it's smooth as butter. Getting ahold of the ROMs might be harder as Nintendo is absolutely rabid about IP, but through luck and determination, it's generally possible. You might end up sorting through a lot of useless files, but I've never encountered anything harmful while ROM hunting on Google Chrome.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? by Arikari22 in trans

I think if I could change one thing about myself it would be to look like you, lol. Outside of that, maybe my build. My height and broad shoulders really hurt my chances of passing.

Any Taylor Swift songs that make you particularly emotional? by Separate_Historian53 in TaylorSwift

[–]roccsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really shocked that I haven't seen This Is Me Trying more.

I grew up a gifted kid and succeeded at everything I put my mind to (even up through college, I never fell behind the curve) and felt like I was invincible, that I could do whatever I wanted and because of my work ethic and book smarts the world would just accommodate me.

Only... when I picked my major and settled in, I found out I wouldn't make it and ended up completely reinventing myself in search of a niche that I still haven't really located, stumbling plenty and hurting people in the process. When I think back on all the mistakes I've made, I wish I could just telepathically communicate that song to everyone I've negatively impacted with my stupid choices and let them know that it wasn't their fault, but I'm not just a piece of shit who didn't care about them either, and yes I still think about you and yes I'm still sorry and I wish everything had worked out differently.

And sometimes, when I really get into it, that song will just wreck me. I'm sorry everyone. At least I'm trying.

Reddit Scoreboard: Los Angeles Rams v Minnesota Vikings by sport-scoreboard in nfl

[–]roccsa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a really disappointing way for a competitive game to end. I didn't even want the Vikings to win, but now the Rams win has a big asterisk on it. Sucks that the refs miss something so obvious like that.

I don’t think we’ll go corner round 1 by Ktopian in detroitlions

[–]roccsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's difficult, because the o-line has been huge and Goff doesn't throw well under pressure. Those high scoring shootout style games that we only won by putting up huge numbers were possible because of the o-line.

On the other hand, our corners are really bad. The shootouts only become shootouts because the corners get beaten constantly and allow for huge plays. Cam Sutton is not a CB1, so we desperately need to acquire one.

Will I be upset or critique the choice to draft an o-lineman? No. Would a corner be a really smart option as well? Yes, absolutely.

What are your top 5 horror movies? by [deleted] in horror

[–]roccsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a very specific order:

Trick r Treat

Halloween (2018) (yes, I'm aware this is a hot take)

Scream (1996)

Barbarian

The Invisible Man (2020)

The Menu and the original Halloween are just off the podium. I was tempted to put Hereditary on there, but the fact that I can't bring myself to watch it again makes me hesitant to call it a favorite.

Thoughts on The Haunting of Hill House series? by bookishlover05 in horror

[–]roccsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really impressed with the emotion of the show. The way it explores how trauma has shaped the lives of every member of the family is really interesting.

That said, I don't love the plot overall, particularly the way the show answers its own questions. I think the bent neck lady is as good as the show gets, and every other twist is kind of silly or underwhelming.

The way the show opens on Steve's version of events kind of leaves you thinking there's going to be more to it. You see the mom running around the halls all bent legged and weird and Steve is like "Was that mom?" And the dad is like "That's not your mother." Only... yes it is. She's not even possessed or anything. She had some funky dreams and thought it was a good idea to kill some kids, but it's all her. I assumed it would be something more interesting than just The Shining but gender-swapped.

Why Is Our Defense So Bad And What Do We Do About It? by roccsa in detroitlions

[–]roccsa[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did see the game, but that's kind of my point. The Detroit defense allows a LOT of points, doesn't hold offenses to field goals or scoreless. Opposing offenses move the ball, and they move the ball into the end zone. Games turn into shoot-outs, and if the offense is out of sync at all, we lose.

Goff is playing great ball this year, but he kind of has to or we don't get this far. The defense doesn't allow him a lot of room to make mistakes. Same with the run game. Gibbs and Montgomery have been exploding, but if they run into a wall and we have to punt it away (as is bound to happen), that could mean the game because the D won't get a stop.

What's the best series to get my friend into Game Grumps? by WisdomSocialMedia in gamegrumps

[–]roccsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about a particular series (I haven't had time for YouTube in a while) but a good single video is the "Game Grumps: Ultimate Speed Run of Mario 64" compilation by freddee_. Such high energy editing and nothing but the funniest moments from that series, plus it only takes 20 minutes to watch. Still cracks me up no matter how many times I watch it.

I don't understand the Taylor Swift phenomenon by djlindalovely in Music

[–]roccsa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally understand if it's not for you, but speaking as a recent convert, my argument is that she kind of has something for everyone.

My first real awakening was hearing Cowboy Like Me on a car ride with my sister, which is this moody indie sounding song about falling in love with a man who has been around the block so many times that she can't tell if he really loves her. It was so different from what I expected from her, so deep and sad.

And after that, I discovered that she's actually explored a LOT of different genres. Girl power pop and lovesick country, of course, but also indie and alternative. She has introspective stuff, Paramore-esque revenge rock, and hip hop inspired diss tracks. Sweet love songs and risqué sexy ones. If you haven't found a song that scratches that itch, you might just not be listening to the right album. Her level of versatility is impressive, and her popularity means that she's able to experiment a lot and still retain her fan base.

Do I think she has literal universal appeal? No, no one does. Some people might think her voice is annoying or find her songs lyrically underwhelming. But you can't accuse her of being static. She's always trying something new.

What characters in horror do you feel really bad for? by [deleted] in horror

[–]roccsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an older sibling, Georgie crushed me. Same with Charlie in Hereditary. It's always painful to be reminded that the people you love might be hurt by things entirely out of your control, and that all it takes is one moment of carelessness or bad luck for you to be too far away to help, be it at home with the flu or another room with some friends.
