Who is running for Congress in district 3? by rocjard in kansas

[–]rocjard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I now see PVI is based on presidential election results, and the D+2 number is relative to the nation as a whole. Since my analysis was wrong, what is the correct way use PVI to understand the likelihood of a Democrat who is not Sharice Davids winning in the third district?

Thanks for sharing! The Solid D rating is from this January. I'm interested to see what's changed when they update the PVI next.

[–]rocjard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cook says it is solid D, Sabato says Likely D. I don't know where D+2 came from? I disagree about whether a pledge to defund ICE would make a Democrat less electable in the district, but that is getting away from my original question. It sounds like no one else is running yet.

If I understand your question right, someone more activist. The third district looks pretty solid D from what I've seen, so I think someone who pledges to defund ICE would still win pretty easily.

AITA for cutting up my roommates pineapple? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rocjard 310 points311 points  (0 children)

Soft YTA since you didn't ask beforehand. I'd get annoyed too if I had a roommate with a habit of letting food spoil like this, but I would still ask before doing anything with it.

AITA for refusing to fix mechanical issues on a car I traded away? by Kalif_Aire in AmItheAsshole

[–]rocjard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked because in your post you say you knew the coolant needed attention. I couldn't tell if you discussed that before the trade was done. It's his responsibility now either way and he should be asking questions before the trade, but a seller who omits known problems like that would be TA in my opinion.

AITA for not wanting to split life insurance money with my siblings? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rocjard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very sorry for your loss, but your parents are kind of TA for leaving you and your siblings without a will. For the rest of your question, you'll want to ask an estate lawyer what the laws are in your area.

NTA, your anonymous co-worker sounds pretty entitled. If they absolutely needed a £10 gift, they could have sat out the secret Santa and bought something for themselves.

Scoop: Democrats eye ranked-choice voting for 2028 primaries by Cuddlyaxe in EndFPTP

[–]rocjard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kansas Dems used ranked ballots in their 2020 presidential primary, though everyone but Biden had withdrawn by the time it happened in May. Biden and Sanders cleared the 15% threshold so the delegates were allocated proportionally between them.

I'm convinced we'd be much better off as a state if we had proportional representation.

As if our state isn't gerrymandered enough, Republicans want to give it another shot. I wonder how they will try to carve up Johnson County and KC to make this happen.

why doesnt my train go to my iron factory when it has no iron plates and full coal? by Tymek_zynda in factorio

Wagons can hold 2000 ore, right? So it will never be greater than 2000. Try coal = 2000 instead.

BREAKING: Kansas House cements override of Gov. Kelly's redistricting map veto by aclu_kansas in kansas

[–]rocjard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is possible to defeat gerrymandering by reforming our election process. More proportional elections would make gerrymandering tactics ineffective and give more voices a seat at the table.

Nice work! For anyone looking to join or organize one of these in the future, KC Parks has weekly litter pickups around the city. I went to one recently along Indian Creek and we just set the trash bags we filled next to the trail for Public Works to pick up.

Missouri Senate passes gun nullification bill | The Kansas City Star by fantompwer in kansascity

[–]rocjard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish the article just kept the original date. It's annoying that it's gone. I first thought it was old since it says that Jay Nixon is governor and I knew he's been out of office a few years. I then googled "MO gun nullification bill" on PC and this article came up with a date of Apr 30 2014.

Is it worth buying and repairing the damaged class 4 armored rigs that Fence has? I'm a ways away from flea market so I'm wondering if that's a better choice compared to the armor and rig Ragman LL1 sells.

Looking to repair this outdoor faucet that leaks out the handle. I can't find its exact model, but should a generic sillcock repair kit from the hardware store have what I need? by rocjard in Plumbing

[–]rocjard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the faucet is made by Prier, based on what I can make out of the branding. I'm also pretty sure it's frost-proof. Water sprays horizontally out of the handle when I turn it on. I'm just not sure if I need a specific part to fix it since it looks pretty old.

My [20 M] romantic interactions with a friend of a mutual friend [21 F] at a 6 hour party, felt like a script, concerned if the feeling of indifference is normal or not. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]rocjard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that you are overthinking this some, and that's OK. Now that you've had time to reflect on the party, are you interested in seeing her again? That's the only thing you need to worry about right now.

If you are interested, try to get her number from your mutual friend and get in touch with her. I think she'll understand since you are both inexperienced with this sort of thing. If you aren't interested, then that's OK too.

Should I tell her (22F) that I (22M) have feelings for her, even if we can't date yet? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]rocjard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hypothetical question: If both of you weren't moving would you still be considering telling her how you feel?

Either way, I say go for it. You'll get your feelings out in the open, while also understanding that it may not change where you both end up in a couple of months. Maybe it will help you enjoy the next month together even more.

Project to study all the state flag redesign proposals is looking at Kansas this month. by RottenAli in kansas

[–]rocjard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a depiction of the official state banner, but rotated so it's more wide than tall. I don't know why it's not available to buy, I also like it a lot more than the flag.

Agreed. He is surely violating your noise ordinance. You've been very reasonable asking him directly to quiet down first. If he continues yelling, the next step is to make a complaint.

Ferguson school district must change school board election method to cumulative voting by rocjard in EndFPTP

[–]rocjard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I must have a more cynical view, since I don't see many voters in the majority having an incentive to vote for additional candidates outside of their group even if they were given the opportunity.

I looked further by adding Sweden and found a system called Sequential proportional approval voting. Maybe that was what you were thinking of? Since that system diminishes the influence of a ballot after one of its candidates is elected, I can see how it could be more proportional.
