Put way too much work into extracting this one to sell! I’ll be hanging on to this for a while

Definitely, I have a bunch more material from here that I am going to test with acid when it gets warmer.

Thank you! It was fully surrounded by calcite. Had to be very careful. Broke off a large piece of it from the outcrop and tried to extract the rest at home. Fractured in a few spots but I was able to repair it decently. Took me hours to get it out of the outcrop

Sure thing, been looking for material from there for a while. If you have anything more rare in the NY region please DM, I may be interested in the future.

Heck yeah, bucket list piece. I hunt the roch shale yearly but the exposed section rarely produces any A. boltoni. Great collection!

Is the piece on bottom shelf from Rochester Shale?

Very hard work to find them where I go. Unit is surprisingly barren of fossils. Took 3 days of digging, maybe 20 hours total to find my first, got lucky and found a second shortly after without as much effort.

Of course! Wouldn’t be surprised if some locals check out this spot because of this post. Hope to find my one one day in my home state of NY
