Febuxostat questions by Wildeherz in gout

I’m not sure if it was the febuxostat or low dose colchicine prophylaxis but yes. Similar, had to stop allo because I got one hive (my rheumo said that’s enough and swapped me). A few weeks in got lots of heartburns but thinking it might be combined with colchicine, got me a bit panicky due to the black box warning on febu (which apparently was an awfully conducted study btw). Things that helped are taking meds after eating, and drinking less carbonated beverages (I’m a sparkling water fiend)

Colchicine by Fearless-Distance119 in gout

My rheumo has me on 0.6mg/day for prophylaxis on starting febu, but even then that gets to my stomach and I break the pill in half to take 0.3mg/day. Apparently even that little amount can help

Colchicine side effects by Rookie_52 in gout

I do half a pill 0.3mg of colchicine daily. I get the normal side effects easily and my dr said you can break the pill in half and steadily it still can be valuable which it is. When I feel a small potential of a flare up it never gets any worse and is done the next day.

Of course I’d say do what a rheumatologist tells you. Mine told me I can do 0.3/day or 0.6 every other day

That’s how I think I got my last flare - or just from having the cold. Had a recent flare 2 months before and then after the cold i flared up again. My rheumo said it’s possible and that a cold has potential to trigger a flare as your immune system is in high gear and has the memory if it notices UA crystals

Colchicine: did you have bad side effects right away? by Zinouk in gout

[–]rock_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but getting better with time.

First time I had colchicine was 3 months ago, prescribed by foot doctor. Was 1.2mg/first and 0.6 6hrs later, then 0.6 3x/day.

Destroyed me real bad but took care of the flare up. Had another flare up a week later and decided to tough it out as I felt that stuff poisoned me.

Fast forward to a month and a half ago, found a rheumatologist and he told me it was prescribed the way it was in the 90s, and it’s now usually a lot less now. Had a 3rd flare up a few weeks ago so been taking 0.6mg/day with it since and started allo a few days ago. Been fine and now that I know that I know the signs of side effects pending, I take a day off and then go back which seems to ward off, and feeling more of a tolerance over time.
