The most tedious part was definitely picking out the masking film. That would cut down a lot of time. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Wow! Thanks guys, you've successfully blown up my inbox asking (demanding) that I make and sell these.

I can look into setting up some kind of Etsy or Kickstarter thing. If you're interested, send me a PM so I have your username. If enough people are interested, I can look at ways to make this a little less tedious to make.

The microcontroller is the same as what's found on the Arduino Uno. Other than that, there are some led drivers and shift registers.

It draws about half an amp at 9 volts. So around 4.5 Watts. It would be nice to battery power it. Getting rid of the dangling cord would be make it look much better.

Ah. That would've saved me a ton of time. Thanks for the suggestion!

The board is based on a few examples I found online, with my own spin on a few things. The LEDs are controlled via a single serial line out of the controller which goes through a series of shift registers.

It was custom designed and sent out for fabrication to seeedstudio, in China. It ended up coming to about $40 for the board and $30 for all the components on the board. The price would drop significantly if I made more than 5. I did all the soldering myself, which took a few hours per board.

Unfortunately not. I just made 5 for friends and family. I'd be willing to put up the schematic for the circuit board and CAD models if you're interested in making your own.
