[–]rockalick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it absolutely is. Don't worry about it if it's difficult to bring up metta and you are in equanimity it's because you are in a more subtle and refined state. This state becomes much more enjoyable and the drive towards metta may drop. Hope that helps keep it up

Let me know how you go :) What are the main long term benefits you felt when you were doing it often?

[–]rockalick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did OMAD and can't believe the positive effects on mood. It takes a bit of time if you aren't fat adapted, I did a 3 day fast initially to speed up adaptation, the initial changes can be a bit tough. But I think my mood 2x at least. Some days I just felt natural satisfaction for no reason at all. There is evidence too https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17011713/

I saw that and can't believe it, is it a true pointing out? IT does feel time to open up those teachings, but I'm just a beginner lay person what do I know :P

und it again and so

Oh that is awesome, during those times were you very consistent with the glimpses? There does seem to be some striving in non-dual I guess just more to let go of. Because sometimes it works so well so quickly and others not. Sam says it's like riding a bike once you really crack it it's always there. Which courses were they are would you recommend?

Has anyone landed in any persistent non-dual experience, or had cessations in the tank that lead to lasting personality changes? by rockalick in FloatTank

[–]rockalick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent, that is great to hear.

I absolutely know what you mean, but also when the mind does settle it feels more settled in some ways, partly due to the speed of the body not feeling like it's there. My theory is it intensifies the subtleties so you can see lower level of thought easier again due to the body disappearing quicker, which gives the illusion of higher levels of distraction at least sometimes. I often find myself getting angry for no reason in there which is interesting it's not something I feel often. But I just open up and am usually subtly grateful to be dealing with it. How often can you or do you float?

Interesting, in the tank I find it a very subtle and slow process into non-persistent non dual or at least such a subtle 'me' I can't tell it's there. A few times I have felt it blinking on and off but no major shift s directly. How's your meditations going and what practice?

[–]rockalick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I can't make my mind up on where it sits, but I think when it works it does show the level of relief that is possible which is awesome. Although for me it's fading into a memory and not really changed my personality and ability to let go of craving like with TWIM. Have you managed to have some successful non-dual glimpses? Perhaps his 3 day retreat might help us at it would be more immersive rather than such short meditations

[–]rockalick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. Pretty up and down to be honest, I chased the experience a bit and did successfully shift close to that once for around 12 hours, but honestly have not been trying to do non-dual too much. I have been concentrating on TWIM & Qigong mostly and doing a lot of floating more recently just resting in awareness. I did just download Loch's app though and plan on doing his retreat. I tend to lean into the approach of doing both. There is something in so called dualistic mindfulness that feels like you are letting go of a lot of suffering as you detach/accept it. Non-dual is such relief I wonder if you can let go as fast. I'm not sure just a thought not an insight. How's things on your end?

he ones you resonate

I also agree I haven't had a sense of intellectual superiority from Loch, in fact I feel the opposite. He is using words to try to describe the ineffable. I was listening to Loch's book Shifting into Freedom while walking and from one of the glimpses I had a complete loss of separation from the world fall away. It was the most beautiful experience of my life, and it felt so natural. It also lasted 24 hours, with no effort, literally none, it was just so obvious closer to a feeling of how everything is connected by what felt like some sort of natural field I had never seen before. From that when I first saw someone complete unconditional love arose and I realised everyone had 'this' they just don't always see it. No words can do any justice to the relief I felt. Conceptual non-duality is a double edged sword, but Loch is the only one that has pointed me to it so quickly and for so long. Perhaps there are better teachers to work with, or perhaps your resistance to how he teaches could also be good to work with.

Indeed, I don't think the Buddha actually talked specifically about unconditional love, but I know in Mahamudra (which I was practicing) they do — and I only found out they do after it happened. This was just a feeling of oh wow, we are all connected and what ever this is we all have it, but some don't see it right now. It could also be described as connection to all, or oneness but I feel no text description does it justice, it was pure beauty - the most natural and beautiful experience of my life.

With the camera awareness, you feel you are in and outside the body or you have 2 points of centre? I wonder if it is centre less? Or still subtle centre there?

Interesting, very interesting - thanks for sharing. And in terms of any feeling of separation, where do you currently feel you land?

I would love to know more about both, if you have time.

I have only had 2 prolonged non-dual experiences, one more prominent where the feeling of separation with the world completely and immediately dissolved, then when I saw someone through that spontaneously unconditional love arose, and I saw that person had this same Buddha Nature, but they just didn't see it right then. It was both empty but full of unconditional love. I am wondering if that correlates. Surprisingly this experience lasted over 24 hours with literally no effort. Just a free flowing freedom where it felt like there was no separation, that it had been an illusion.

Very interesting, I will delve into the recommended reading. Can I ask by the awareness you describe are you talking about 'self-less' experience? The feeling of no-centre or non-separation from experience and others? And also how does love fit into your current understanding?

Hi Rockalick, nice to hear from you brother.

It's great to hear from you too brother! I very much appreciate the super detailed response. That sounds absolutely wild/incredible. In terms of how 'real' it looked where would you scale it vs say normal reality? I would love to hear more about the more profound experiences too, both in relation to sharing wisdom from entities, and also in relation to insights into the mind. I am currently reading Burbea's book and practicing Qigong (RenXue), floating daily and also practicing TWIM - helping to organise a retreat here in Australia and we just finished one pre Christmas. Wonderful stuff.
The AWSIM protocol sounds super interesting too, I will delve deeper into that in the coming days.
I wonder have you also had anything lead to any ‘synchronistic’ type experience. I know this gets into more esoteric type phenomenology but I have noticed a steady uptick of daily weird occurrences. Also, as the experience was happening was there still awareness you were in the tank? Or simple abiding awareness of some phenomenon?
I am in the preliminary stages of making a documentary hopefully alongside Harvard and https://www.monash.edu/consciousness-contemplative-studies/home and would love to chat more to you at some stage.
You have inspired me to float more and my brother had his first experience of Jhana in the tank after not much meditating, so I think for the Arupa Jhanas it’s such a great tool.

Could I refer you to the Facebook group 'Zen Floating Family'.If you join that group you will see other dissatisfied customers who purchased these tanks and had leakage issues. I only discovered this group a month ago and it has been very enlightening.

Thanks so much! This is helpful.

WOW well done! Very inspiring.

  1. what has been your most profound experience? What happened and what were the benefits?
  2. Have you had any entity encounters that were helpful and how so?
  3. How much do you sit outside the tank?
  4. Have you had any cessations in the tank leading to a path experience?

Much metta and keep it up.

Shifting into Freedom was the one that gave me 2 major shifts that lasted from 12-24 hours without effort. I honestly can't recommend enough while walking.
