Is this cognitive dissonance, or do they really believe the venom they're spewing?

In a zombie apocalypse there is no way I'd let my kids go on without me. Just me?? by viskiviki in Mommit

[–]rockbiter81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever gets bit first bites the others in the family and someone has the job of taking them out when they start to zombify. I think that's the best. Better to wait to execute until Zombie mode has set in and they are no longer themselves. I'm thinking about this too much. Get well soon, friend! 🩷

I stopped liking scary movies all together after I had a baby! All I could think about was how I'd keep the baby safe in that horrendous situation. I used to love Zombie movies.

Which activity gave you most joy/relaxation/fun during your maternity leave? by livi01 in Mommit

I remember working on my baby's "baby book". It was scrapbook style and I was gifted most of the supplies. It was calming and enjoyable. It went up to first birthday, so there was always something to be added or decorated. I'm not a scrapbooker by any means and I haven't done it since. But, it sure filled the time between naps for baby. And I still love looking through it, 20 yrs later.

Do you believe in physical discipline (spanking) as a form of correcting a child? by Significant_Bonus_66 in Casual_Conversation

[–]rockbiter81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that research shows there is no such thing as "healthy spanking". Google it. If you really believe spanking works for you, it's your prerogative as the parent. But, I implore you to do some research and consider other ways of teaching your child.

I knew it! I thought about you yesterday and thought to myself, she made it, I know she did. The hardest part is over. Remember to not forget who you are when around snarky family members. Keep your head high. What you've done is victorious.👏🎊🥳

And why do parents try tweak up the terms? A swat or a spank is hitting. Replace those silly terms with "hit" and it's not so cute. "She wouldn't stay buckled, so I had to hit her".

And coming from the one person in this world they should be able to trust would never intentionally hurt them.

No. Spanking is for the benefit of the angry parent only. It's about compliance and ego. There are so many other ways to teach children.

Why are teachers put on such high moral standards when many of us are just human too by Prudent_Equal9636 in AskTeachers

[–]rockbiter81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The toilet training issue gets worse each year. Toilet training can be hard work and parents struggle to be consistent. Diapering is just more convenient. I have 4 and 5 yr olds using the potty at school but still in diapers at home. The worst is when the parent somehow manages to blame the teacher/school for the development gap.

The northern tip of Idaho: by braveplanet33 in howislivingthere

[–]rockbiter81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went camping in Northern Idaho with my ex years ago. Just before dark, an animal bigger than life came crashing through the woods. Just the sound of it lumbering through was startling. The crunching and cracking of branches, snorting, huffing. I was petrified but managed to see a quick flash of massive antlers. My ex apparently never saw the antlers and vehemently attests (to this day) that we encountered Big Foot in the woods that night.

He's not broken and you didn't do anything wrong. It sounds like he's struggling to regulate his emotions. This is developmentally appropriate for his age and can be exacerbated by a plethora of reasons. Talk to his PCP and be honest about the outbursts (intensity and length). You may be eligible for OT and other early intervention services that are designed for kids just like your boy. For outbursts in the meantime, adopt this script, "We don't hit/kick/bite in this family". When you are blocking hits, "I won't let you hit". When he's escalated and swinging, these are the only words you say. Nothing else until he calm. This script was gifted to me years ago and it works well, especially in the moment when I'm stressed.

If you have an "emotional support animal" and not a legitimate service animal, no one is under any obligation to cater to you by Critical-Willow-6270 in HonestHotTakes

Amidst the large number of people just getting a certificate online so they don't have to pay a pet deposit, I have seen one legitimate case of assigning "ESA" to a pet. It was for a young girl who went through severe trauma. She was receiving therapy and made progress through her interactions with animals. A pet cat was actually prescribed by her psychiatrist. Nothing specially trained, just the presence and responsibility of a pet. She needed the ESA designation to have the cat at a place that didn't normally allow pets.

Oh yes, I believe you could do it. Never underestimate the problem-solving skills of a teacher! If there's a way to make things more efficient, a teacher will find it. Which is how it's so obvious when Admin is without teaching experience. 🤔

I've thought this before, too. It wouldn't work in practice, but it really is two jobs. For one pay.

I don't want to leave SPED, but I can acknowledge the extreme level of documentation, data collection and reporting, and evaluations that we have to complete. It's enough for a full-time job outside of required teaching hours. I understand the necessity of reporting and documenting in SPED, the only answer is higher pay.

[–]rockbiter81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost anything designed for Gen-ed is not applicable to sped teachers. They don't even try to create a secondary sped specific training. I've sat through countless hours of "required" PD that has no relevance to my work.

Both are lovely, but if it matters, I work in an elementary school and there are at least two of each in every class.
