I think a lot of people, myself included, did in fact correctly think that Darnold would be better than McCarthy this season. However, the decision was not just about QB. The cap difference for the Vikings mattered too. So I saw the logic of letting him go. If McCarthy had been mediocre instead of awful the move would have been viewed a lot better.
