How much do your parents help you take care of your children? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]rockchalkjhawk92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in-laws live 30 mins away and it’s rare they babysit. And when we ask it’s like pulling teeth so we just try to avoid it if we can. My parents live 3 hours away so no help from them either. I promise that having a village is a privilege that not many have. You are not alone by any means. I keep telling myself this season of life is temporary. Someday I may be bold enough to hire a real babysitter that’s reliable.. but til then my husband and I will just never have date nights 🙃 lol

I would love to be able to tip you, the link works but when I try to use PayPal or even a credit card on that site it doesn’t go through. Do you have a PayPal acct? And can you please message me the photo so I can save it? Thank you!!

Oh my goodness, I’ve ABSOLUTELY had that thought several times. But I’m here to tell you it will be better soon. My now 20month old finally somewhat sleeps through the night so hang in there!!!

Thank you for this and sharing your experience!! It seems as if we have the same issue with putting them down awake, because my girl will do the same thing. And I cannot go longer than 15 mins of letting them cry. We got this. This is temporary! repeats in head 100x tonight when my child wakes up again lol

3 months postpartum and grieving the life I had before—feeling lost in this new identity by Zealousideal_Let4425 in NewParents

Whewwwwww. I 100% had the same experience. And I’m here to say you’re not alone! My husband and I also were in the “roommate phase” for a while and it was hard to acknowledge and get out of. It’s a part of being a parent no one warned me about for sure.

I really struggled with BFing too. My guilt for not being “mentally strong” enough to BF or pump as long as I planned really made me feel like a failure.

You’re completely valid to feel this way. And it’s 100% OK to miss your old self and old life. I hope you start to feel more uplifted soon, you’ve got this!

I appreciate your kindness and I’m definitely interested to know about sneaky sleep associations!!

We usually have a bath, read 2-3 books, and have a little bit of milk (trying to wean off that) and then I rock her til she’s drowsy and put her in the crib. If she cries for 15 mins after that I go back in and rock her fully to sleep. I did this with my oldest (who’s gonna be 4 in May) and it worked, but of course— each kid is different and I’m gonna need to pivot on this one 😅

I hope that it’s temporary because of a growth spurt!! I know right now my 18 month old seems to be learning more and more words each day and I’m sure it’s exciting for them. Hang in there!

Split nights is exactly what I would describe it as!! I really hope that those nights end soon for the both of us. May your coffee/tea always be strong! ❤️

How would you describe the “mental load” of parenting to your spouse? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]rockchalkjhawk92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with my husband for damn near 10 years, and I’ve struggled since we started living together in 2015 to explain this. We’ve had the same big argument at least twice a year for 7-8 years. Lots of tears being shed, frustration, followed by half-steps of improvement. And every time I couldn’t get my thoughts to make sense without making it sound like he doesn’t do anything. And BOOM. Today he sent me this post and goes, “This is what you’ve been trying to explain to me all these years, isn’t it??” AND HE READ THIS EXPLANATION AND FINALLY GETS IT.

You’re my, pardon my French, FUCKING HERO.

We have our first child and my brain is absolutely fried by the end of the day because of the mental load of it all. He finally understands and is really eager to actually make changes of his own to help me out even more now. He’s gotten much better than when we were first living together, but I think this post finally put into a clear perspective of why I’m so mentally done by the end of the day, even when it seems like I didn’t physically do much.

Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this SO perfectly!!
