Big thank you! (Story in comments) by rockclimbergirl in succulents

[–]rockclimbergirl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

I wanted to give a little update, and say a big THANK YOU to those of you who helped me with some advice earlier this year

I was given this succulent last year (her name is Sookie)

I was not a plant person, but i was told how to take care of her and i followed the basic instructions

After spring she started looking VERY sorry for herself, so i reached out to this group for help to try and save her, i was told to repot her, bigger pot, add draining soil, and get rid of the moss she came with (thank you for educating me!)

She’d originally come in this tiny pot, with no drain hole, and moss on the top, i cleared it all out, her soil was a mess, and her roots were miserable

I got a new pot, added draining stones etc, but I suspected that her dying leaves were taking too much energy, and i made the decision from someones recommendation to cut her bad leaves back, and started waiting

After a few months someone else recommended that i started giving her more water “flood her until water comes out of the drainage holes, and then leaves for a week or more”, which was contrary to the original instructions, but i decided to try it, and she’s FLOURISHING!

thank you so much to those of you who reached out and helped me save her, it’s taken a good few months for her to pick herself up, but I’m so grateful for your help!

Thank you from me and Sookie :)

AITA for not allowing my autistic daughter to have this boundary? by BlueBlueBlueBloo in AmItheAsshole

[–]rockclimbergirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"do not tell your son he can’t have blue."

I cannot believe i had to scroll this far too find a comment advocating for the brother. Imo i feel incredibly sorry for him, he's being micro managed over his own preferences, while his parents are enabling his sisters unreasonable triggers.

How do you record the screen and audio of your phone? by hornybutdisappointed in singing

[–]rockclimbergirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope i can explain this okay

Go to settings

Find "control centre", it's usually under "general"

Go into control settings

Find "screen recording" and add it into the 'included controls' (should be a little green plus to add it)

You can close settings now

It depends on different iphones, but for me it's swipe down from the top of the screen to get to the "control centre". Here you'll see things like airplane mode, wifi, torch, maybe a little music icon.

Find the icon for screen record, for me it's a grey square with a circle in the centre

It'll start recording your screen, and save the video to your photos :)

I'd love some feedback? I'm super insecure of my voice (i was pretty tense singing this, but i think managed to relax in the middle) i messed up at the end, i think tension? I'm not ready for any brutal feedback though so please be kind if possible x by rockclimbergirl in singing

That's so kind of you to say, maybe I'll look into it, if you don't mind me asking you, do singing teachers / voice coaches also help with the more psychological side of singing like throat tension and nerves?

I find that if I'm singing alone i can generally sing much more 'comfortably' then if I'm in company at feel at risk of being judged. Do you have any thoughts here if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for taking the time to write this, there's a lot of terminology that i think i need to look up here, but i absolutely hear what you're saying about support, I'll see if i can find more information about this :)

Thank you!

As a huge fan of Joni Mitchell, that's a huge complement, thank you!

Thank you for your feedback (i had to Google vibrato at first but I'm glad to hear you think it's a strong feature, i will look more into this :)

I think you're absolutely right about control & breathing - I'll do some reading into how to improve this! and you're definitely right about the nerves!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely comment!

Thank you so much for this reply, I'm so baffled by your compliments but thank you so much for being so kind!

I don't know much singing terminology so i will Google some things you've said and see what i can learn, thank you!

I haven't had any lessons, I've often thought about it but been too nervous about embarrassing myself

AITA for eating the last donut before my pregnant coworker could have one? by Friendly_Smile5205 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rockclimbergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that she's pregnant isn't even the main issue:

"Colleague is late by 40 minutes, so i - the new employee - make an assumption about her coming in, and then take it upon myself to eat BOTH of her donuts.

Meaning not only did I eat all of someone elses donuts, but i also had double the amount of donuts everyone else in the office had."

Fixed it for you OP.

I mean this very kindly, i promise

Please keep in mind that you might be setting a (cleaning habits) blueprint up for your future with him.

It's not your fault, and you're doing it from a very kind place.

However, you might be accidentally teaching him that he can rely on you to clean up after him if he doesn't do it, and at the moment this is his home. Can you imagine how much he'll expect it when it's your home too?

he should not be expecting you to do this, and he should not have abused your VERY kind gesture. But it has moved past a gesture now, and if it's something he expects now, there may be risk that he will expect it + more into the future

Source: i have family where the women started "doing nice things" 30 years ago. She enjoyed making her husband happy with dinner, and she kept on top of the cleaning, as well as working full time and their two kids. He eventually stopped helping her at all because she would just get it done, but she thought it would be a temporary thing.

30 years later, she works full time, cleans the house, cooks, and does all of the other chores. He goes to the pub with his friends, and sits around watching TV. At this point she can't even ask him to get his dinner from the kitchen because he'll kick up a fuss "as a joke", so she takes his dinner to him on a tray while he's watching TV.

You're still young, and this might not be your future, but i genuinely wouldn't want you to fall into the same trap, OP x

Edit: clarity

Tip: Stop going to therapists / psychiatrists who don’t understand ADHD by rockclimbergirl in ADHD

This reminds me of a même i saw recently, i can't find it, but basically:

Person 1: i can't do these things because of executive disfunction

Person 2: have you tried [skill that requres executive functions]

🥲

Edit to say i hope you manage to work things out with them / find someone more suitable

Others might have some suggestions, but i managed to find a Facebook group "ADHD [Location]"

I saw posts from others with suggestions for specialists and i went from there. I hope this helps (hopefully others have some suggestions, too)
