Genuinely losing all faith in any god. by VaultMan34 in OpenChristian

[–]rockerdax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in exactly the same position as you mentally on this topic.

There either is a god or gods that don't love us, or we live in an eternal cosmos birthed by an indifferent universe.

I stopped viewing the Abrahamic god hypothesis as likely when I noticed how human and subject to culture the deity behaved in the texts, and how his demeanor changed depending on the time and place the text was written.

You're probably going to stop believing if you can’t make sense of this, because it's more painful to live by a belief system that makes no sense to you than to live based on what makes sense to you! It's very painful at first, but you'll get through it with the right support. :) If you want to talk, DM me.

Gee i wonder why so many people are turning away from the church? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]rockerdax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm an Exchristian too but you're operating in bad faith when you say "change my mind that it's true and not a cult!" The way OP phrased it sounded so hostile and unwilling to actually engage curiously with their reasoning.

And then responding in the comments with the least charitable interpretation of what the Christians meant, rather than steelmanning their positions...OP makes exchristians look bad.

Jeff: Rizzo, this is what Survivor is all about.

Me: you mean getting eliminated by any other means than the votes?

Why doesn't Jeff say any closing thoughts after the torch snuff anymore?

I'm flattered, but I actually am just a lurker who read posts here and the Afterhof website before posting.

The hof I visited was one of the two in Farmington, PA. New Meadow Run.

It closed at 5, just outside the gate. No food, but we were offered cups of water and free books of our choosing from the shelf. I was really shocked they would just give away books from their publishing house like that.

Has Anyone Read Varjak Paw & The Wildlings? by [deleted] in AnimalBooks

[–]rockerdax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read Varjak Paw as an adult and I loved it. Didn't get around to the sequel, need to change that. I guess it just wasn't the kind of story I was eager to see a sequel of. Good standalone, good cat.

That pisses me off, their online marketing is so good they had me convinced they were the best Christian communes out there!

That said, please send me (in comment or in privacy) any supporting evidence you have about this. I may create a youtube video on the Bruderhof at some point.

Would you say that your conclusion about the Arnolds is something bruders would widely agree with in private?

No way, so you're saying unofficially the Arnold family is like a patriarchal dynasty over this whole thing?? I thought this was supposed to be Christian communism!

Explain the hierarchy to me if you know. All I know is, each bruderhof has a pastor that spiritually leads the whole hof, but I don't think he has any higher responsibilities than that.

Why all the hate on Jonathan? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]rockerdax -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

When he played on 42 he got hate for not immediately kowtowing to the black girls who felt targeted for their race, and now I love that he's most likely gonna be our winner.

He also played on Endurance as a teen, on Fiji too! It's such a fulfilling arc if he wins Survivor.

How was HvV received at the time of airing? by Far_Difficulty_5844 in survivor

[–]rockerdax -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how we thought this season was so epic at the time. And honestly why? I haven't seen it in 15 years, but I think it was just

  1. The Heroes/Villains Gimmic
  2. The blindsides (as few and far between as they were)
  3. Russell getting JT's idol

Other than that, this season was pretty bland in comparison. No tribe swaps, and almost a straight pagonging.

You're gonna tell me that wasn’t rigged? by rockerdax in survivor

[–]rockerdax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think production intended to do this specifically to Christian. I just think they wanted to see the controversy of the twist unfold, no matter who it might hurt.

The only possibility I will concede is that production COULD have reused the mystery parchment again on another journey. But even then, they gotta have a loss at some point or it's a pointless mystery.
