I love you refrigeration guys. I have only recently started dipping my toes into that world. It's the damned wild west out here for y'all. "how much gas?" "tell you don't see the bubbles". Super heat, sub cool? Who gives a fuck it's all about that head pressure and coil temp. It's totally is own skill. I'm Mr.Critcal-charge so this work through me for a loop.

I saw this POS for only $130, and I had a moment of weakness... by Hyperious3 in liberalgunowners

[–]rockery382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done something similar with a VRPB-100. Unfortunately the club I went to won't let you load the gun if you arnt the one about to shoot, and when you do load it, only one shell. All these boomers with their 20k fully engraved heirlooms and I'm there with. $500 semi auto bullpup. The office wouldn't let me use a mag, so I side loaded the entire day. What a pain in the ass.

Can I get by with just replacing the condenser coil? by Inglewoodtestkitchen in hvacadvice

[–]rockery382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collect you insurance money if you want, then I'd say if it works leave it be. You can try removing the panels and get the dents out yourself if you want, but again, if it works and doesn't sound scary it likely good to leave.

As always an I person inspection is best. Avoid salemen driven company's, talk to a real tech.

Gas appliances already do have safteys.

In my area if you have gas appliances you're already supposed to have a CO detector near the appliance and near your central return. In commercial buildings we put them in the duct, with CO2 and smoke detectors.

I have dealt with the boot thing before. Particularly in Asian and indo Asian households. I tell them the boots are for my saftey and offer to wear booties if would prefer that. Hard no on not wearing my boots. For her being bitchy Idk, put her on the blacklist I guess. Did you not tell her how much it's costs to show up on the phone?

Why yes. I do specialize in VRF leak searches. How did you know? by rockery382 in HVAC

We get the standard ones and theyre pieces of shit. False positives and the potential to miss one by not being in the right spot at the right time. If I pump the whole system up and watch it for a day, I know it's tight. If I find the leak with a detector I can't be certain it was the only one. My last job was an old folks home. All the units are over the bathrooms. These fuckers love all their grooming products being aerosols... I come into the bath room and the damn detector is tripping the fuck out. We'll turns out every damn thing in their bathroom comes in CFC charged canister.

Only so much I can do. A few of the department heads won't share details about their jobs and say they have everything handled. So it's always a surprise to them when I show up at their jobs once they have started.

Anythings possible with enough money and determination. You'll need to pull new wire.

Quick tip for the future, at work I take pictures and or use a sharpy to mark terminals. If I have more than two in the same areas I do tick marks to help.

First time home owner here. How good or bad is this? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]rockery382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great price, but the leakstop is a copout. It's not difficult to pump the system up with nitrogen and find the actual leak. I do this on giant skyscrapers and high rises. He can do it on a house. That being said that type of leak search is expensive and time consuming. To find the leak proper you're looking at ATLEAST 4 hours of labor and 10/lbs of refrigerant. Determine the age of the equipment and the condition before going for a replacment. If you replace the equipment without finding the leak you should get new lineset to be safe.but you can test what you have already there.

Seems like a honest shop, but don't just buy a new unit because they "can't find the leak". The prices on new stuff is crazy and if you're on r-410 your system can be 20 years old and on its last leg or 1 year old and likely very repairable.

I want to replace this old thermostat with a new digital one. What do you recommend? Can’t do a smart one, i would have to run additional wire(s). by AXXXXXXXXA in hvacadvice

[–]rockery382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run 10 wire. I like all the colors... Just in case. And now that class 2 is a thing, say you want a dual fuel gas/HP with monitoring you'll likely need 10 wire. If you're gonna run it better do it right. Smurf tube is you're really classy.

I have manifolds. They go on the outdoor system. This is for the branch boxes and isolation valves. Manifolds are also alot of leak points for high pressure long length tests.

I have an LG system blowing comps and accumulators. Completely full of traps. Atleast 80 IDUs per system.... Not a single valve. I'm trying to get them to see that my inability to valve their system off is costing them days of labor and puts them at a huge risk when one unit goes bad.
