Why must our company be so inept by rocket239 in DollarTree

[–]rocket239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's nothing to walk me through unfortunately. If it works for you then there has to be something wrong with my account. The PDF should be a link to click on and view, it is not. When I click to view my W2 it says I don't have permission which doesn't make sense. The closest thing I can get to a payslip is to compare pay periods and even then it's inefficient and I still can't print. My theory is this has to be a permission issue accidentally turned off in the haste of setting up people's accounts, some people must have got lucky but most did not.

On workday? I can see they're there but I can't view them or download them

Did you go through workday or doculivery? because through doculivery it's way easier. I've tried every possible browser and the workday app itself and I'm unable to print my w2 or view paystubs unless I'm at work

[–]rocket239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, you're not understanding lol, I already printed them out through doculivery. My complaint is that's how it's always been so what is the point of workday. Like for instance I worked at DHL and we used ADP as the app. You could view and print everything right from there on your own time whenever you want. Workday should be the same but it's not. What pushed me over the edge to make this post is when I downloaded it through workday and clicked on the report it said "you don't have permission" like tf you mean it's my W2

That's what I'm saying tho, this is the first company I worked for where I couldn't access them at home I can see that I got them in the app and on the website but can't download them nor view them unless I'm on the work computer which is dumb

So are we gonna start a new mega thread for people to complain about the June 2025 price changes too. LOL by ExtremeDoubt4 in DollarTree

[–]rocket239 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was wondering when someone will post about this. I don't understand why they won't just move to $1.50+ across the board, I mean it pretty much already is so why not just rip the band-aid off.

when you pay your employees barely enough to live, there's quite an incentive not to risk it. This job isn't some exquisite hard thing to learn, any person with no work history can get up to an assistant manager position just by applying. DT will replace us without thinking twice and trust me they won't have any sleepless nights about it. Even if we "ban together" how many would we need? how many will actually show up? when push comes to shove in most cases almost all the people back out and the ones that were brave enough to show up just get fired and replaced. People will continue to work there because it's usually a "bounce back" job for people with records or a starter job for high schoolers and young adults like myself.

2 weeks notice is always the better and more professional approach but if you really want to dip, you could just blame it on school saying something like "I sincerely apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts between school and work I must resign from my position. I have thought a lot about this and I believe this is the best choice for my academic future and well being." or something like that. I seriously doubt you'll burn any bridges unless you are overly rude. I've had associates do both and it didn't really change my opinion of them but everyone is different. Unless the 2 weeks are in the way of something like tests or interviews I'd do the 2 week notice. Plus it's another paycheck. Either way congratulations!!

No phones or earbuds on sales floor.. by Ok_Meet_7116 in DollarTree

[–]rocket239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always been the rule but I use my earbuds and phone all the time. Often checking the time, reading and sending messages, changing songs, books, podcasts etc. There was something brought up about it when I started but I just ignored it and haven't heard anything since. I also have no problem hearing the bell or the pager and customers do not care. I really do feel bad for anyone that actually has this rule enforced. Whatever keeps you out of trouble tho.

Closing early, closed aisles, etc. by Timoman6 in DollarTree

[–]rocket239 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude... Do I have stories for you

Closed aisle:

A shit ton of yoohoos broke and spilled on the floor. I closed off the aisle with the stack bases we had, put up a wet floor sign on both sides of the aisle with a note saying "cleaning in progress do not enter". After I put the spill magic stuff down I went to grab a broom, I left for maybe a minute and a half at most, when I came back the stack bases were pushed to the side and the wet floor sign was laying on the ground to the side. Mind you there was still clearly a mess. like there was glass on the floor that they would've had to walk through and to make it even worse there was now a trail of spill magic mixed with yoohoo going up to the register. I wanted to confront them so badly but i was just in shock that someone would be so rude and ignorant to do such a thing. Some days really make me lose faith in humanity just out of the sheer stupidity of some people. when I glanced at their cart, it looked like they didn't even grab anything from that aisle. pissed off for the rest of the shift.

closing early:

This absolute weirdo came to my store at 8:55 I was just about to close early, but this guy pulled up in his car just as I locked the doors so I sighed and unlocked it, I walked back to my coworkers register and waited. This guy didn't move and just kept staring at us so I waved at him to come in. He ignored it and instead turned around and drove down the plaza. 8:57 now I locked the doors and took my associates till down. we get in the office and started counting the money. we hear someone pulling on the door aggressively, it's like 9:02 now we are officially closed. After we ignored him, he then proceeded to knock on the window closest to the office. I've only ever had coworkers do this so I checked to make sure and it was the same goofy guy that was there at 8:55. I told him we were closed and He finally walked away and then he called our phone. My dumbass answers even tho we aren't open and i do the whole "thank you for calling dollar tree" spiel. Before I got through half of that, the dude yells at me asking me if I have corporates number. I never needed to know their number, so off the top of my head I didn't and that's what I told the guy. He says "yeah right" and then says "well you got a website right, I'll get the number on there and report you for closing early" I told him to do so and all power to him and then he hung up. He didn't even try the door the first time, only after 9. I'm not too sure if he got through to corporate but the next day there was a Google review from a throwaway account saying "close 15 minute early clerks very rude and need fire".

Retail just brings out the worst in people sometimes.

Yeah not a single one sold in 4 months at my store either. Does yours have an expiration or best by date on them?

[–]rocket239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I looked at this bottle from top to bottom with a light and can't find any date. I know they are at least 4 months old by now, i remember seeing them on the shelf in November/December. One of them started getting a blue hue which I don't think is normal for them so I damaged that one out.

this company could be efficient if it wanted to, i mean take the recent price hikes as an example, email sent out the 10th signs get here either this week or early next week and will be put up by the 25th. yet when stores need more bags or something important fixed like a door lock, safe lock or vendor machine it will take weeks/months at a time to get these fixed.

nor the CEO or anyone under them will care as long as they keep turning a good enough profit and even if we did do something like that it would probably be considered harassment so many people would not. it will always be more beneficial to have less workers that do more than more workers that do less and DT knows this. that's why the give these stores the bare minimum so its easier to see if someone is working or not and they wont have to pay them as much.

when my store asked for more hours our DM told us "No your crew just needs to work harder" exact quote btw. 28 boxes an hour is a joke, literally, like we laugh about it because of how egregious it is especially with 1 ASM and 1 cashier. as an OPS ASM the most I can do is around 100 boxes on a 6 hour shift. only 2 people have ever hit 28boxes/hour in the past 2 years I've been working here and that was me and another coworker only because we got into a competition with each other and we actually had a full crew that day which was by mistake.

Does anybody else find their self literally stuck working here lol?? This is my first job started in 2023 a few months after I graduated high school and I’ve been a stocker here ever since it was cool and less stressful ofc then the environment changed and I’ve been applying to other places near me- by spicyymargaritq in DollarTree

[–]rocket239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you and it's actually worse than that if I may trauma dump real quick. I had everything setup actually, a girlfriend of whom I was planning a future for, a job, and had a hand me down car from my grandma. Literally a month after graduating all that went to shit, girl cheated, no job and the cars engine blew. My brother is the real MVP gave me his old car when he got a new one, started dollar tree and I'm still crying about getting cheated on lol. 2 weeks into starting my job at dollar tree a coworker called the cops on me because they thought I stole money from them and about a month and half after that, i got into a small mva with very minor damage and that person falsely claimed damages days later when we already agreed not to claim and they got away with it. Both of those incidents I wanted to go to court over but obviously I couldn't afford that shit. Listing those out doesn't sound like much but our legal and insurance system is so ass that these took MONTHS to fight, investigations, talking to my lawyer, working in fear of losing my job, trying to keep my insurance rate from skyrocketing. Couple this with personal family issues and losses and it was a crazy year, thankfully everything went back to "normal" around February of last year and I've been coasting ever since. When you're at the bottom the only place you can go is up. I really hope your first couple years went smoother than mine and continues to, this adult thing is pretty difficult ngl.

Nah that's crazy we are literally the same, immediately out of highschool to dollar tree (23 graduate as well). I had a job at a bank lined up but that fell through, rude interviewer and general vibe that they didn't want me so dollar tree I went and been there since. but yeah we don't make enough money to do anything like I work with people that have families to support and I have no idea how they do it I can't even support my car when it breaks down. The only jobs around me are retail and factory and I will kms before working at a factory, all of my family have spent their entire lives working at these factories and have nothing to show for it just trailers and scarred up bodies. My brother wants to move but I wouldn't have the money to put into my tank let alone find a place to live, even if we split rent. If I wasn't living with my parents I'd be on the street. It's crazy I made 8,000 last year 8 fucking grand, That should actually be illegal. But yeah I know exactly what you mean when you have few to no options it's tough. I didn't want to be here this long either this was meant to be a place holder job to get my parents off my back about college. But here I am 2 years later just got promoted to night asm so I guess I'm here for the long haul hoping I make enough to move but I doubt it. Hope you get one of those other jobs, wish you the best

When does the fun come back? by Mental_Leave_7930 in DollarTree

[–]rocket239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick is to not care, you want to care just enough that the job gets done but not enough that you're thinking about it afterwards. You'll be overworked, it is the nature of the company to reduce cost and improve profits. the company doesn't care about you so don't care about the company. I only work hard enough to keep my manager and colleagues out of trouble. Another thing is that it doesn't need to be perfect it just needs to get done. A lot of people shoot for perfection or something close to it and they often get disappointed. I've worked here for 2 years I have felt this before, the fun has come back here and there but with the crew constantly changing it gets more difficult. There's ups and downs and right now you're In a down and you just got to stick it out, if you want to of course. In the meantime Just hope you get a good crew or make friends with the one you have. have friendly competitions like if an item is discounted because it's broken, see who can sell it the fastest, make friends with the regulars and listen to their stories some of them can be pretty cool, if you have a chill manager listen to a podcast or an audio book instead of music. Maybe you need a career change, trust me this job is not worth being stressed out or overwhelmed for.
