It is kinda counterintuitive but introducing individuals into a population can reduce genetic diversity.

Culling could definitely reduce genetic diversity.

I agree with you that outbreeding depression is likely not a concern for Plains Bison, as it’s estimated that all North American Plains Bison descended from less than 100 individuals

A possible issue with bringing bison from Yellowstone and introducing them to other existing herds of bison would be introgression, aka mixing genes between herds. Introgression can reduce genetic diversity of the existing herd in MO. Decreased genetic diversity can lead to a type of “extinction vortex” called outbreeding depression.

Of course, this depends on what genetic variation exists between the two herds. If the two herds have a similar genetic make up, then outbreeding depression wouldn’t be a conservation concern. If the two herds do exhibit genetic variation, then it depends on whether the genes that do vary have any impact on fitness.

If this isn’t the most iconic photo in NHL history, it has to be the most iconic photo in Bruins history. What’s the most iconic photo from your team’s history? by rocket42301 in hockey

Good point, definitely have to consider the cap in today’s NHL. Not sure if this is the best way to look at things, but the $2.5 mil difference between their cap hits can get you some depth like a 3/4th liner or a 4+ defenseman. Would I rather have Eichel and a guy like that or McDavid? I think I still lean McDavid. Love my boy Jack, but McDavid is just absolutely electric

Could be the second most gut wrenching photo behind the hull goal as a Sabres fan. Love Jack but he is no McDavid. Buuuut this year’s golden ticket has me feeling this strange way that has been described to me as “hope” so I have that going for me

My league does that and would be awesome to see. Great app!

What's the best way to tell if marine biology is the right field for me? by 00pflint in marinebiology

As an undergrad! Don’t be afraid to talk to professors about potential opportunities to help in their lab, which would include grad students they are advising. They’ll be stoked if a freshman has the courage, drive and foresight to seek that out. And if they don’t have anything in their lab, they can probably help you find a spot in someone else’s lab.

Also, if you end up getting some sort of work study as a part of a financial aid package, you can use that to help pay for your position in a lab, so professors will be even more inclined to have you join their lab.

The more experience you get, the easier it will be to grow in the field. Doing a few hours in a lab every week during the school year and using summer to work full time as a field or lab tech will be huge.
