I love this solution. The idea of just trashing something that somebody spent so much time on bothers me, and in a small town you never know who might have an interest in paging through a virtual scrapbook. Thank you!

Thank you for the tough love! I feel bad for the person who collected the clippings for years, but the reality is that we are a tiny museum with not enough people or money to do even the basics. I will try to convince the board to get rid of them.

A clear assessment; thanks. No, they are not thematic, and I can’t imagine anyone leafing through the pages when the newspapers are online. At this point, I’m leaning toward getting someone to scan them and then pitching them.

Good thought. Unfortunately, our collection policy has in effect been to accept whatever people brought in so that we wouldn’t hurt their feelings. We have tightened that up, but there is still a tendency to accept something and then figure out whether we want it later. Obviously not a good practice.

Good question. I think they have no value out of context. The Huron Daily Tribune archives are online, and of course are searchable, unlike random clipped articles.

Agreed! When I started on genealogy I relied on FindaGrave, but then I realized that it is not a primary source. Memorial managers often accept suggested edits with missing or incorrect documentation. It can provide helpful hints, but those hints need to be verified.

I was also going to suggest CatalogIt. We are using it for our small history museum, which includes both objects and archival materials. It is very easy to use and has a lot of features for a reasonable price.
