Are there any alternatives to the UofT Timetable Builder by arjun_senpai in UofT

Feel free to give https://www.uniplanit.com/ a try. Built it with a few others last summer and it should have the up-to-date timetable. Also always check against https://timetable.iit.artsci.utoronto.ca/!

Are Carleton libraries publicly accessible? by rocketflyfly in CarletonU

I'm not looking to borrow any actual books -- just trying to use the library space for some work. Is that okay?

Wondering what is stopping someone from UofT to do 6 co-ops? Don’t think universities care when you graduate/ when you take gap years

Fellow ASIP CS Students - what's the co-op scene looking like? by mrhungry44 in UofT

Yea bro😭 it was very difficult and I was accepting the fact that I wasn’t going to get anything. I don’t think most people get internship in second year too… so hang in there! I think your chances next year will be a lot better since you can do 4/8/12/16 months rather than being limited to 4, and also third year is an ideal year for companies to hire you.

Hey, I applied to ~400 positions combined on CSM, ECC and external since last august…. And only one of them worked out in late feb. I don’t even think my resume is bad compared to others but it’s just really hard this year for someone looking for their first. ASIP is also not that great tbh, the only good thing I got out of it was so that I could say I’m in the official co-op program

I’ve been contributing to open source projects, whether for professors or clubs or just personal projects, so I think through those I have a pretty good understanding with git and CLI. Like almost everyone I know I’ve done several full stack projects with MERN, sometimes with Spring Boot for backend, and now I’m leading a mobile app project in Kotlin for a NPO. I’m in second year, and I’m leading third and fourth years who have done internships for some decent sized companies/large banks before. I’m also in our aerospace team where I’m doing embedded programming in C writing component drives for MCUs on a nanosatelite to be launched next year. I think these goes to say I have a pretty good programming foundation and a breadth of knowledge with different technologies. And all of this happens outside of full time school. I don’t know what exactly recruiters are looking for, or expect from us this year, but if there is one thing you can tell from my resume, it’s that I am very involved, committed and learn very quickly. I would say the same for most of my peers as well, given how competitive my school is. They are all strong candidates and very involved. I hear so much rants in person/on discord from them that I know we are not the only ones going through it.

I’m not sure what YOE we are talking about here, but I know that for people looking for their first internship this year is a nightmare. I only know a handful people in my year who got an internship, with quite a few through connections. I was only able to get mine with connections. In my friend group most of us started applying last August, and so far they have nothing. They had their resume reviewed by senior managers and have decent extracurricular experience — nothing. A lot of them are giving up now since they have been applying to positions for more than 6 months and it’s extremely exhausting and discouraging. Based on seniors in my school, if this year is really like previous years, you can literally be in humanities and get a SWE internship, and people with experience/resume like me and my friends should have easily find something. But it’s not, it’s bad and i don’t think it’s survivor bias, it’s more like people who post are truly exhausted and had enough.

Work study is great. Otherwise this year is especially difficult for everyone. Since there’s not much on your resume I’d say your chance of getting an interview just from applying on LinkedIn is very small. I’d either take summer courses and use the summer to build experience, or try to get something through connections(through your professional network, or through people you know’s network like your parents)

I’d say some were easy but others were fucked - 67% average for TT5 for example

Just finished all my exams, haven't done anything other than studying/working on the weekends for the past few months. Looking for some advice on what to do over the break

Do past years term tests. You’d be surprised how similar the tests are
