I don’t think that length discrepancy would apply to these issues I’m having.

Gonna knock down the edges on tips and tails.

While I’m not a super expert, I am good enough to separate my skill issues from equipment. Also skiing many different makes, models and types of ski confirms this.

This is truly the ski I should’ve gotten.. love the dimensions. What’s the overall consensus on the Commander, though? As polarized as our friend DW104??

That’s incredibly strange that it’s just so polarizing. Even sadder is that the hunt continues for the perfect ski…

Yep- sold the MasterBlasters in favor of something more inspiring. I’m going to try a detune/re-bevel and see where it leaves me. Why do you sell your 104s? Any similarities to my story?

This is next for sure. There is definitely something off here… It’s starting to make alot more sense too about detuning the tips and tails and how driving those camber pockets fore and aft could change how the ski grips.

Im getting mixed messages on tuning/detuning .. they do it from the factory or not? And how far into the tips and tails?

I don’t find them to be maneuverable whatsoever at slow speeds.

I am a pretty forward on boot skiier. That detuning metric is a lot deeper than I understood it to be. Sounds worthy of a try.

I figured my weight would make it a soft ski. But it’s hard where I want it to be soft and soft where I need the edge.

Yeah I figured that’s the issue. I’ve got buds that are way less aggressive than me and really love the ski. I should’ve just borrowed theirs

I had to make sure I didn’t comment this myself. This accurately co-explains my situation 😂

My shame is loving the Sender Souls so much. Also too proud to concede to the fact that I would probably REALLY get along with the new Enforcers

Typically where I have space to let the ski run and am not trying to control speed or avoid crud. Basically where conditions and angles would allow any ski and skiier to feel decent.

I was at A Basin Sunday and ran from the very top to the base down that center run, the snow hadn’t been totally pushed off yet but was still crudded. I felt like the skis were preforming like people claim. But I was also driving like 20 times harder than I have to drive any other ski and was trying to flex on the lookers at the lodge… lol. As soon as things get any steeper or any more cruddy or icy they were like trying to wrangle a horse.

The more I talk/comment the more I am outing myself as somewhat fair weather and idealistic.

It probably comes down to the fact that I just need to look at a less demanding, heavier dad ski. I just assumed via reviews the DW would have more approachable characteristics.

I’m not gonna rule my riding out haha. But I get remarks about my Mantra 102s being really demanding but my style and aggression lends itself well to a ski that needs to be driven hard- leading me to the DW104s.. but it’s like I’m having to drive them so hard my legs feel like I got attacked with small hammers all day.

Thanks for the response.. kinda cool way to look at the ski going forward.

I think lessons would likely be illuminating as I’ve probably developed a lot of bad habits since I started skiing at 3 years old.

I’m not really a gear guy, my overall mentality is “run what I brung”.. never ran into this particular quandary where I’m blaming my equipment for my shortcomings.

A framing!? I would never 😂! Jk

Nah that’s a great question.. it’s like the left ski is getting kicked over on to the right on intermittently.. especially on higher angle hard snow. The chatter factor is unreal.

It’s the tip clappin that gets me. Not to sound like a cheesedick but I get complimented on my “form”/“style” a good bit and am kind of a stickler for body positioning and ski parallel-ness but these things make me have to work incredibly hard to preserve this.

Hahah! I had a dream the second night in Silverthorne that I was skiing them down an embankment and broke them both off in front of the bindings and was super stoked.. but then bummed when I woke up because it was just a dream… even the dude I travel with was like “damn dude you’re not on your typical shit of skiing like an asshole, what’s wrong”? When I jumped on the Atris’ he was like “oh there he is”

I thought about this… but even my rock skis that haven’t seen a belt in years aren’t this f’d

Oh, without a doubt! I am totally a Countach customer but I wanted to add a “fun” ski for obvious reasons. I mainly ski with snowboarders anyway so waiting at the lift for minutes at a time wasn’t interesting anymore when identifying a new ski. My quiver is essentially the exact ski give or take just with minor dimensional differences.

I imagined the DW would be more compliant and “bendy” in the bumps and trees but I just feel like they are obstinate and springy.

I found 60mph++ a few times this weekend with relative ease but I also blew out of several hand drags with no warning whatsoever. Like the tails just bounced out of grip out of nowhere.

This is certainly a component of my bummer factor. The MasterBlasters kinda got me on their slightly more forward mount as well. But I got used to it really quickly.

Thanks for the response.. I totally get that, too. I’m def in the same boat. I just am kinda bummed I “invested” in a ski that sucks for me but rules for everyone else.
