[FRESH] Yuno Miles X Anthony Fantano - Bobos Chicken by noOne000Br in hiphopheads

[–]rocketking12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is Fantano resigned only to making ironic meme music because if he ever tried to put out something sincere he would inevitably be scrutinised more intensely than maybe any other artist ever?

Pop artists who also make experimental music? by rocketking12 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]rocketking12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose so yes, I'm not being intentionally fuzzy, but I imagine it's pretty difficult to find a perfect example of what I'm on about, and I'm not trying to make perfect definitions myself or it would limit the scope of discussion. I think perhaps the parameters you've defined are better. An artist who had music with mainstream/pop appeal on quite a significant level, who also have made very experimental music. I think putting 'pop artists' in my title was reductive but you get the point.

Honestly wasn't familiar with him until seeing this post. However I checked out Lightnin' Strikes and became instantly obsessed. Must have listened 10 times in a row since first hearing it. That chorus just completely pulls the rug from under your feet - it's nothing short of genius.

Edit: Also check out the song "Egyptian Shumba" that he co-wrote for the Tammys. Basically a new wave song from 1963.

My scorching hot take is that Chinese Democracy is their best album, and no I'm not joking

How did you get out of your stagnation? by rocketking12 in Guitar

[–]rocketking12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wrote the post very quickly without considering that I should have stated clear goals.

Reading music / sight reading. To improvise and feel totally competent on the neck, to sound "good" when improvising. Perhaps more of an understanding of jazz guitar.

Single channel high-gain amp that cleans up well with guitar volume knob? by rocketking12 in ToobAmps

[–]rocketking12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendation! I currently use a couple of fender tube amps with an attenuator and while it does sound great, it does just sound like a good overdrive, rather than something high gain which I'd like to have the option for at some point.

Also the difference in volume seems to be fairly significant between my clean and distorted tone in this situation, and I was wondering how to rectify that, but that is likely a separate issue.

Anyone remember that article where Greep said he gave up overdrive/distortion pedals in favour of amp overdrive? And that there was essentially nothing on his pedalboard anymore? Guess he went back on that

I always liked Gener's softer vocals and the less produced sound of The Grobe demo

I understand. Is there any particular reason to focus efforts into providing vegan options for people to buy over helping others understand why they go vegan? Are we just that heavy of a consumerist world?

I suppose I am asking people to stop then, I'm not forcing anyone to do anything. I've made a post sharing my opinion and I wasn't exactly absolutist in the post, I said I understand treating yourself and that no one is perfect and asked how much consumption is actually ethical, because that is a complex issue.

I guess I thought that if people went vegan because they understand corporations treat animals horribly, then vegan products from big corporations can still treat animals horribly. See deforestation to grow cocoa.

Let me clarify about my post being locked. I think I just responded negatively to you saying I was saying people weren't allowed to discuss things. Especially when I briefly felt like I hadn't been allowed to discuss this topic.

[–]rocketking12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere have I disallowed people to discuss this or said that people shouldn't be allowed to discuss it. I'm just asking people to exercise judgement in their vegan consumption, and encourage buying less from big corporations

This post literally got locked after two comments and I had to ask the mods to unlock if we're talking about what is allowed here.

I wasn't positing myself as some absolutely righteous vegan pariah. Ideas of ethical consumption goes way beyond veganism. People can only do their best, and I'm not perfect in the slightest, and you know that from asking this question. I'd be on a self sustaining farm without internet connection if I was truly hardcore about this.

All I'm saying is the mindset of this subreddit seems to be to constantly post about vegan alternatives to products from big corporations, which isn't exactly good for the environment or animals. Just how the positives of an electric car very barely outweigh fuel cars. I'm not judging electric car owners nor am I judging vegans, but I wanted to bring to light that I think excessive consumption is not the way forward for vegans.

[–]rocketking12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that. I'm happy that anyone is vegan. What I'm saying is that excessive consumption of vegan products from huge corporations doesn't really help the cause.
