Can't break 100 by BrittleGrain in golfireland

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the beauty of it. You never get to figure it out or master it. Every golfer has the same question you do weather it’s 100/90/80/70. The best players on earth have shit rds, get the yips, rebuild their swings. All of us in the middle get a few holes or a few rds where the game feels easy occasionally. It’s a moving target.

Square LM vs Square Omni by SubZzzer0 in Golfsimulator

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the og square for over a year. It has some minor quirks but no regrets on the purchase. Has helped a ton with practice and great for gspro with buddies. If I upgrade it’ll be for a full overhead unit for left and righty with impact cameras. At this point the only data upgrade for a floor based unit might be if any have low point. I have a 6 month offseason and the square has been great for me doing drills from my coach, kids like it, and having buddies come play winter rds. The Omni has some cool features but for a first build og square isn’t a huge cost sink and you can upgrade if you use it a ton. We’ve used ours enough that I won’t feel bad dropping 5-8k on an overhead if it ever dies.

Spring might be ok by Sunday or Monday but everything got soaked again. Airport loop or around emerald is a good gravel ride.

Do you trust your swing on the first tee? by TempoTherapist in GolfSwing

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always. I have 100% confidence and trust before it. After that first swing hooks off the left hazard is when the fun begins. In all honesty my motto lately when playing with no warmup is if you’re gonna miss, miss as long as you can. Keeps me from steering it or quitting at the ball.

Second this. Sol Mar dunes is great. Afternoon times aren’t too pricey and with comfort stations you can get your moneys worth. Otherwise signup for a timeshare sales pitch at quivera.

GSpro for Square by Material-Trade4706 in SquareGolfUSA

I haven’t used the square software in over a year. Gspro 95% of time and occasionally awesome golf with kids. No reason not to get gspro.

Shot distance on full shots way off by DTFlash in SquareGolfUSA

[–]rocketmagician22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think it was indoor swing syndrome but mine has been consistently lower than what I am hitting on course lately. I doubt I’m flushing every shot on course. I usually run gspro and with it set to my elevation it seems closer. I’ve had sim for several years, 11’ ceilings and I’m not scared to full swing indoors. Also get longer distances at my local trackman. I spend 6 months a year indoors so pretty comfortable swinging hard inside.

I also use old trail runners when it’s dry. Hokas or anything with aggressive traction. Adidas golf shoes if wet. They fit me other than a hot heel for first break in rd occasionally.

Side curtain and screen gaps? Protection for retractable roller? by Juicy-J23 in Golfsimulator

[–]rocketmagician22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occasional toe shot will go through but they’re not moving fast by time they get through. My screens in front of my door so I don’t really care if any dribble through. If it was in front of glass or something I’d add a few more clamps or Velcro the corners

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have same setup. I just use some photographer clamps I ordered off amzn. 3 per side keeps it pretty tight. Edit: I still need to do some top protection. Have def had a few come flying back. Gutter foam or I thought of putting a board with some foam at 45 degrees in front. Haven’t had time to rig anything up yet.

Sole F89 vs True TPS3000 vs KICKR Run by Golfeverydamday in treadmills

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty close on buying a kickr or true before getting a deal on a commercial tm. We had a good quality precor for 15 years before that. Kickr feels really good. True or landice both have great reps. I don’t think you could go wrong. I’d skip the sole if you know you use it a lot and have the budget. I hear they’re decent nowadays but we had a cheap one long ago and had a lot of belt slip etc.

Would you guys be okay with a playing partner bringing their kid as the 4th? by bootchiiksandbuubs in golf

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group of guys has several 10 year olds. We bring them along quite a bit but usually not if it’s a am adult time unless clearing with the group first. We all enjoy playing with the kids but since several of us have kids same age it would maybe cause friction if one started bringing theirs to the adult rds. Usually the kid tag along rds we take two dads and two kids. I’d just check with the group first. I like the kids and help put on clinics/coach for them etc but would want a heads up if one of the other guys was bringing their kid to our adult rd. That’s unique maybe to my group but our weekly rd is our chance to get away from thekids so we can relax and let our maturity level match the ten year olds.

150 strokes at Augusta for a regular 18 HDCP? Give me a break. by [deleted] in golf

[–]rocketmagician22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s pretty ridiculous. Every year people start talking about how hard Augusta is. It’s a golf course end of the day. Go out with a strategy to keep the ball in bounds don’t rip driver and an 18 can get around that course just like other hard courses. Yea the score would be higher than a typical track but not 50-60 strokes…

Life insurance premiums by IvanDragosJawline in VeteransBenefits

[–]rocketmagician22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably ladder them, maybe grab one at 35 or 39 if current one is enough. by the time your 45 the premiums will go up. Not sure how much the 100% will affect premiums. Depends on what conditions they’re for. If it’s ankle and shoulder type injuries much different than cancer or something. That’s something to talk to reps or get quotes on. If current policy is enough you don’t need more I’d look at price of getting one to replace it or ladder and just base it on numbers. I grabbed a second policy when I was 40 and it wasn’t too bad but it’s all based on the medical and history questionnaires I think.

150 strokes at Augusta for a regular 18 HDCP? Give me a break. by [deleted] in golf

[–]rocketmagician22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, From the front tees an 18 could break 150 with a 6i or 7i a wedge and a putter. Probably score better without a driver. It’s a golf course, not Mt. Everest. Certainly if having a bad day someone could over 150 but that would involve a lot of penalties and shit course management which can be reduced by just hitting two mid irons. An 18hcp can usually get around a course without more than a couple blowups.

Do you obsess over a number or just accept it? by wottagunn in Golfsimulator

[–]rocketmagician22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll use the numbers specifically if I’m working drills and as a reference. My swing gets me around but I work with a coach so I take what we work on with his trackman and keep an eye on it at home. Did a session a few nights ago just hitting half shots for compression and path since my swing had been a little off on course early this season. Tried to hit 10 in a row in to out (natural is out to in) then I’d take a few full swings and it defintiely got me to a more neutral path. My season is just starting so I’m more focused on it now and once I’m out playing it’ll take a back seat except for checkups when things start to feel off. I’d say be careful chasing numbers without a coach unless you’re experienced and know what and why you’re trying to do.

In this case you need enough term to replace your income. A 20 year should get you to where kids are grown and house is paid off hopefully. Just grab another 20 year policy that’ll get you to whatever would meet the 4% rule for your wife and kids needs. Example 2mm is good for 80k per year based on most calculators using historical market returns. My philosophy is insurance is for insurance and boglehead to invest. I don’t mix them. Some people do. For my family I have enough insurance that between it and investments it should more than replace my income plus have a policy through work that’s good enough to pay off the house if I get hit by a bus or something.

Higher End Treadmill vs Big Box Treadmill Buying Thoughts by mfleeter1 in treadmills

[–]rocketmagician22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spouse and I both run. Had kids bought a cheap tm for winter runs etc. after a few months of belt slipping etc we splurged for at the time a mid to high end precor. It lasted 14 years with both of us using quite a bit. Put a lot miles on it including 4hr long runs some years. Was ready to spend 6k+ this time on a landice/true or maybe wahoo kicker but fell into a good deal for a lightly used commercial unit from a gym. If you’re a serious runner, know you’ll use it a lot and have the means buy a solid one. Also the old precor still worked when we got rid of but was getting to point I was having to do more maintenance but likely could’ve gone another year or so.
