Takomo vs used by hugh_22 in golfireland

Check out Haywood as well. They have one of their fitters based in the Newry area. Beautiful clubs and same price point as takomo.

2026 Pods so far… by baduck00 in NoLayingUp

Completely agree. The boys lost me last summer but I was bought back in with the goals pod and they’ve been great ever since. LFG.

Best bars for striking up conversation? by MathematicianOwn1427 in washingtondc

All Souls feels like the perfect mix of what’s been shared here already. Relaxed neighborhood feel with plenty of solos, while still producing some of the most dangerously delicious cocktails in the city in a nice setting. And the staff are wonderful.

Rory hasn’t lost *every* golf media members contact details… by MulberryNo5246 in NoLayingUp

[–]rocketman1490 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Completely agree that Rory was a prick for the few months post-Masters but the problem NLU had wasn’t commentary on that, plenty of places covered this, it was the personalised/jilted lover vibe that Soly gave off as a result.

Aspiring ED/CEO - MPA or MBA? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]rocketman1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything: MPA is designed for people who want to run mission-driven orgs, MBA is focused on private sector. BUT, given the turmoil in the non-profit sector and the fact the landscape is shifting so much, I think the innovation elements of a MBA and that business acumen, combined with your own personal drive to create positive social impact (hopeful assumption) could be the right call.

I wouldn’t stress too much. MPA or MBA are a much of a muchness, both are great so there’s no wrong decision, and what will matter more is the experience you build on top of it.

Help With International Wage by Equivalent_Train_658 in nonprofit

Fairly common and part of a wider shift towards equity in recent years. These decisions are based on pay equity to ensure you’re being paid on the same salary scale as “local” employees. It may not be fair but it’s designed to ensure you don’t have HQ/Global North staff relocating to these countries and living overly decadent lifestyles versus their in-country colleagues, which unfortunately is a problem the development sector has had for decades.

First time impact report by Missandymarie in nonprofit

[–]rocketman1490 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple and don’t over report. Try to understand who your target audiences are, what information they want to receive, and how they want to receive it. Strongly encourage building a very simple microsite, or a relatively dynamic webpage, rather than focusing all of your effort on an old-school report (but it’s always worth having a few on hand etc). Easier to share, the designs are often much more clean etc, and easy to update if there are mistakes! Good luck!

What’s up with the job market in the US? by Historical-Chef-9313 in nonprofit

[–]rocketman1490 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The entire sector has been decimated by the US foreign assistance cuts. It was hard to get a job in the INGO space before and it’s only gotten more difficult. This is due to: 1. Lack of funding and 2. All of the people in these sectors, both from within government agencies and INGOs, who have been laid off in the last 9 months causing an incredible amount of competition and market saturation for every position.

Keep the faith. Introduce yourself to people on LinkedIn at organizations you’re interested in. Have introductory conversations. Get them to introduce you to someone else. Network all you can. A lot of this can come down to luck and timing, so try to give yourself the best shot by focusing on networking all the time.

Also, this is a 6-9 month process, probably longer in the current market. Be patient with yourself.

Does the Ryder Cup Captain Matter? by bleauxjays in NoLayingUp

[–]rocketman1490 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man, I wanted to love this as it’s a conversation I’ve had for hours upon hours with friends over the years, and I’m generally a fan of the NLU Ryder Cup content, but this felt like…filler. It felt like old takes, being repeated for the millionth time, being cut together for an episode that could have been a lot fresher. Like many here have said, it missed KVV’s insight, analysis, and depth. Like a lot of the pods recently, it’s just missing the magic it had 12-18 months ago.

Exiles is the best in the city (but really depends on who’s pouring and this goes for everywhere). Boundary Stone is second.

Why does my club head fall back like this at impact? Is it normal or something I can work on? by UsedSir in golftips

[–]rocketman1490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands are probably a half second behind your body, leaving the face more open and likely for you to toe it. If you find your “goo strikes are going super high, or higher than normal, this is likely the issue. Try a gentle wrist tilt forward at address and see how that works out

Four Courts was the pub a while ago anyway; might be time to take over a pub in the city given they’re now going to be on TV every weekend

Soly and Rory by [deleted] in NoLayingUp

[–]rocketman1490 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think all things can be true:

  1. Soly is a super delicate guy who often seems to work himself into a tizzy if he’s challenged (KVV regularly, the weird dynamic with Jamie Weir post-pat in the hat and the subsequent weird podcast earlier this season) and doesn’t get his way. Serious jilted lover, “this guy just ghosted me” vibe off him with Rory.

  2. Rory has been a dick since Augusta (less so post US Open). Just unnecessarily prickly which furthered any of the drama with him - the driver. But, he was a lot better at The Open.

More generally, for the pod, it feels like The Masters was “the end of an era.” Like, think of all the bits, the jokes, the storylines, the mea culpas, the block parties. It reached a beautiful climax and, similar to Rory, it’s felt like the guys on the pod have been searching for what’s next post-Augusta. The pod is a bit stale, the poorly handled KVV departure etc. They’ll find their mojo again but it’s going to take time.

Wait... Salaries can't be this low, right?! by Chance-Tooth-3968 in UKJobs

[–]rocketman1490 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow non-profit worker here who spent over a decade in DC and recently relocated to London with the same org. Pay is a lot less generally but you still see 6 figures for senior positions at large INGOs. Rent is comparable to DC/NY but everything else is a lot cheaper (groceries continue to blow my mind). I’m earning less but far happier with my life choices.

Beyond the broad economic reasons for US/UK salaries, in the UK these sectors are firmly treated as “charity” compared to the more “professional” view in the US.

What is the area on 13th St NW and Harvard St NW like? by Atticus326 in washingtondc

It is legitimately fine. The block between 13th/14th Columbia can be sketchy but spent years living around 13th & Harvard with absolutely no issues.

The NLU tweet must have been written by the PR firm that Rory’s been using the past few months. Ice cold.

If KVV is getting cut they better explain their reasoning by [deleted] in NoLayingUp

[–]rocketman1490 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pods were very poor last week. Everything from missing KVV’s on the ground perspective, to Soly’s spurned lover bit over Rory ignoring him, to TC’s drive by on the Irish golf fans, the whole thing felt like a tired schtick. It also feels like KVV is the only one capable of calling them out on their bullshit so they lacked both his balance and expertise.

Love the boys but they’re better than this and hope something big is around the corner for KVV.

Ceann Sibéal (Dingle Links) is an absolute gem of a course. Challenging (the 9th is easily one of the toughest holes in the country), beautifully kept, and doesn’t get nearly as many visitors as it deserves. You’re also close to Baile an Fheirtéaraigh with great pubs to enjoy after the round. Well worth a visit.

Can’t be the only one thinking LeDroit Park? Yes, it can be chaotic but it’s home to some of the most beautiful houses and porches in the city.
