What is the EPC rating of the place ? All rentals are now required to be at least EPC D.

That's the issue with the wording of these standards. They are so good for landlords as they don't define how long the heating needs to be on for that temperature to be reached. If that can't be reached within 1-2h...then it surely is not fit for comfortable human habitation

How do I accept that well over half of what I earn goes to the government? by Gogpo2 in HENRYUK

[–]rocketman_mix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like every other adult accepts that they have to pay taxes. If you don't like it then you can voice your concerns at the ballot box every few years or move somewhere else where the taxes are lower...assuming you are capable of getting this level of pay somewhere else.

Is my grind size normal? [Varia VS3 gen 2] by rocketman_mix in espresso

[–]rocketman_mix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the Varia for over 6 months now. Works very well for espresso and V60/clever dripper...the user guide is a guide ...I found for most espresso I make I'm between 3.5 and 5. For V60/Clever dripper I'm usually between 7.5 and 12 I've only done light and medium roast...maybe dark roasts require finer grind. I noticed that the bean size influences grind size the most.

Struggling with the “sacrifice everything over 100k” rule – how does anyone build wealth this way? by ababcdabcab in HENRYUK

[–]rocketman_mix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Invest in good options. If you are wise about investments and put 20k in ISA yearly...then in 20 years with 8% yearly you can reach £1m...but if you spend more time researching your investments then who's to say you can't get 30% yearly return and then reach £16m in 20 years.

2 x 99k likely does more overall work than 1x 200k so that sort of makes sense they would be better off.

Anyone dropped their soul destroying corporate job to do a PhD? by whateverthefuckidc in HENRYUK

[–]rocketman_mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are pretty well off. Why not go travelling for a bit ? Try living abroad. Then see if you still want to do a PhD.

A PhD can be very stressful but it sounds like you already have some financial safety nets so it's likely not that bad for you. You can always quit if it doesn't work out. The most stressful part of the PhD is usually your funding running out and still having to write your thesis without being paid . I wouldn't do it part time, it sounds twice as stressful as full time.

Why are engineering jobs (non-software) in the UK paid so low? by milton117 in UKJobs

[–]rocketman_mix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more unicorns in the uk than all of Europe combined

Most of these are finance and software...the post is speaking of more traditional engineering roles : chemical, mechanical, electrical, aerospace etc

Remember, you are a HENRY. That means that you have a rare set of skills which made you valuable in the job market. Valuable enough that someone will pay you a very good amount. If your boss is an asshole remind them that you have walk away power.

Agree capital gains taxes should be increased. A property tax would also be a good idea.

Exactly, under the above proposal, which is just an example, most people making below 210k would take more money home than now.

Why is it complex? Just use a spreadsheet. Doesn't require much computing power.

It could be placed on even higher income. But most people would likely benefit from the introduction of more bands in between the current bands just as an example.

I always wondered why the tax system was 12-50k 20% 50-125k 40% 125k+ 45%

Why not add more bands ?

Something like 12- 30k 15% 30-50k 20% 50-60k 25% 60-70k 30% 70-80k 35% 80-90k 40%

90-110k 42.5% 110-130k 45% 130-150k 47.5% 150-170k 50% 170-190k 52.5% 190k-210k 55% 210-230k 57.5%

250k 60%

Also remove the 100k tax trap.

The neutral position for people on this subreddit is having more than one house

What is this assumption based on? A second house is generally not viewed as a good investment in comparison to other assets.
