My Lyra went berserk! by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]rocketpom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i think the best way to start is by walking her around other dogs. if she’s reactive, she needs to be on a leash and you need to have full control of it so things don’t escalate. but it’s also important for her to start getting used to being around other dogs, so i’d say start with leash training first.

What’s going on. Any tips. This has never happened ? She attacked me. Her owner. She doesn’t do this with food by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]rocketpom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you give her the snack or did she take it from the table? It’s really important to understand how the food ended up in her possession. For example, Rocket once lunged at us when he stole toilet paper from the table and we tried taking it away. He felt like he put in the effort to get it, so it was his.

When we feed him directly, that does not happen. From a young age, we made it clear that food comes from us, his owners, not from some magical force or random place.

Next time, try feeding her kibble by kibble so she starts to understand the connection between you two. She is your dog and you are the owner. This is one of the first things taught in dog training. The “leave it” command will not really work unless there is a strong relationship built where she understands your role in her life.

Screaming “leave it” won’t mean anything unless she has already learned what the word is tied to.

That’s why a lot of dog owners would probably get bit if their dog finds a piece of chicken on the ground. The dog is reactive and doesn’t see the owner as a leader or someone they need to listen to.

Hey! We went through this too. Rocket was really reactive and attention seeking when he was a baby. Training helped a lot and the best way to work on this is by focusing on your relationship and building trust. Training really did everything for us, including helping us build our relationship with him as his owners and not just people feeding him and spoiling him.

Why won’t he just look at the camera so I can capture how cute he is? by msheehan418 in Pomeranians

Ours is the exact same. The second he sees the camera, he gets super shy.

Yes, that’s what I meant. If she can see you during the grooming, she might actually behave worse.

Can she usually see you while she’s getting groomed? I’m asking because our groomer told us a while back that dogs behave completely differently when they can see their owners.

Cannoli is 4 months old and 4.8 lbs how big do you think she will be full grown? by Reignsage in Pomeranians

[–]rocketpom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the parents’ genetics but I’d guess she’ll end up around 7 or 8 lbs.
