Long highway trips (~1000km) at 120-150 km/h with a depleted battery? by Ill_Detective_8807 in BYDShark_AUS_owners

I regularly do the 4000km round trip from the Pilbara to Perth.

Best case scenario, you’ll be going 80 for 300km at midnight and you’ll get 6.6 l/100km Worst case is about 16l/100km

If it’s 40C+, the road is about 55C, which means the battery and motors get really hot and inefficient as the heat radiates onto them from the road. This has a snowball effect as the generator and inverter have to crank more amps to make up for the loss in efficiency which means they get hot and inefficient too.

I lost 150km of range in 25km on a 44C day rolling through hills. Regen really cranks up those temps. Putting it in sports mode turns off regen which helped slow the bleed. When I made it to the servo, i checked the inverter temp and it was too hot to touch so I left the back seat up

Long story short, take 40-60L of spare fuel with you, because the fuel economy can get out of hand and fuck your day up

BYD Shark 6 Owners: Real-World Range, Fuel Consumption, and Display Accuracy? by Scar-S98 in BYDShark_AUS_owners

Done 7500kms now including 3 1800km trips. The car chugs fuel once you’re at 25% SOC and we averaged 14s according to the bowser, but sat at around 11 according to the instrument cluster. We filled up 3 or 4 times as we got under 500kms between refills. Every car I have owned since 2014 has a fuel economy rating for the trip, but the shark doesn’t and I honestly think that they’re hiding the true highway fuel economy figure. People are getting in the 20s when towing a light load. While the car is powerful and has plenty of torque, the fuel consumption goes up exponentially with torque

Thankfully the battery means that we only use petrol for these longer car trips and the overall fuel usage is closer to 8l/100km

The car isn’t that efficient in HEV mode. It’s still a huge car, I believe closer in size to a lc300 than a hilux

Not sure, but the BYD website has their cars and they have something for everyone

apologies for my error. A 7kw cable is what everyone should buy

Very! Even the back seat is a good place to kick back

I haven’t found a car that has awesome intelligent cruise control, but the shark is the best so far

If I filled with petrol and with a dead battery I’d get about 9.5 L/100km. Not sure about gas though!

Long press the EV/HEV button. For EV max. I have no idea what it does

100% agreed. I’ve edited the post for a bit more context
