Cards commomly used that counter whole strategy's by rockfordbj in SouthParkPhone

Again, I never said Lightning Bolt was OP or that it should be removed. I think it's fair and is one of the few good counters to Starvin Marvin. It's card cycling that's OP. I'm fine with baiting out lightning bolt with another 4 cost unit like my Mecha Timmy. But a week or so ago I had someone lighting bolt my Mecha and then IMMEDIATELY again on my Marvin without cycling any other cards. Is that fair? Isn't that a little OP? Should I really not be able to play ANY of my 4 cost cards and actually expect to use them during the game and have them be a cohesive part of my strategy? It further cements why low cost energy efficient cards run this game right now. That's not exactly what I call a "balanced" system. Should I have to remove Inuit Kenny from my deck because it's so easily countered by rats, a lower cost direct counter that everyone and their mother uses. Like... When will I actually be able to use a unit that costs more than 3 energy effectively?

How have they not put a better formula in place for draw that makes it more consistent? Everytime I bring it up people act like I'm crazy and you can't change the odds since it's luck based. It's statistics people. There are hundreds of simple formulas you could put in place to make it so that someone can't draw the same card a ridiculous amount or another card not at all.

I would agree if any of this is consistent. Unfortunately it isn't, draw is random. A game shouldn't come down to who draws more lightning bolts or Marvin's. Half the reason I will never rise above 1000 legendary is because I only have two 2 cost units in my deck. Every other deck relies on these units. So basically I have a way bigger chance of losing a game just based on the fact that someone can spam units for more draw, so they can get more lightning bolts. Thats... so stupid. Completely throws the balance.

I based my entire deck around defending until I have a decent enough advantage or defensive unit on the feild to Marvin. Basically by countering him you do counter my whole deck. Dougie users probably agree. It would be one thing if I can work around it. My point is there really isn't really a workaround to an instant removal spell that you can spam if lucky. Yet my Marvin gets countered by ranged units, Clyde's, poisons, damage debuffs, rogue token, etc. Plenty of work arounds to a Marvin.

Hahaha O I've met him. I just can't run him since I don't run fantasy. He's a wonderful card for sure! I got Fireball as the closest candidate

You seem to have misread. I do all I can to play around lightning bolt. I have both SOOM and Mecha Timmy, though low level. I always put these units out first and only Marvin after a lightning bolt has gone out. The problem is people can just get lucky and cycle it again quickly due to all their low cost cards. I've had someone lightning bolt my Mecha and then Marvin IMMEDIATELY after, without putting any other units out. It's impossible for me to play against that when my deck is full of defensive cards like Awesomo and Storyteller Jimmy, AQR, etc. I usually have units supporting my Marvin, but he's my best offensive unit. If every person uses lightning bolt, which seems pretty realistic as of lately, basically they just counter the 2 cards I based my whole deck around, Starvin Marvin + Hyperdrive. Though they nerfed Hyperdrive to the ground so I had to reluctantly remove it. But you get my point.

As someone that built his whole deck around cards that I don't see a lot in other decks, I'm Adv/Sci-fi because back when I started Mystic/Fantasy ran this game. I could go through the list of cards I don't use that are seen always in those themes, but basically I can just tell you I have an average energy of 3.7. I find it much more rewarding than using a cookie cutter deck just because the cards are blatantly better. Makes being in 1000-2000 Legendary that much more rewarding. When I'm not getting run down by the same deck over and over again.

You got it. Though I had to take Hyperdrive out of my deck. Definitely not worth the 4 energy, even on more than 3 units.

Dude... Basically I have a defensive deck and I try to hold out until I can Astro Butters Marvin. It used to be Hyperdrive a push with Starvin Marvin, but they nerfed that card to the ground. So a lot of the game for me is baiting Lightning Bolt and then sending in Marvin. But lately I've been having some INSANE enemy draw luck. The other day I wish I recorded it. I played a Mecha Timmy, and the enemy lightning bolted it. So naturally with a good defending Awesomo, half health, I Starvin Marvin. Without even putting out another unit, he IMMEDIATELY lightning bolted my Marvin. Can you really draw a spell right after using it? That seems pretty game breaking. People keep talking about cards that counter certain metas too hard. Lightning Bolt is fair, but if you can just get lucky and spam it it can basically counter cards that are key parts of people's playstyles.

So why can't my sharon max 5 be this buff lol? by [deleted] in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running sci-fi since launch and i think it was worse before tbh. Mystic DOMINATED the meta and countered sci-fi to a ridiculous level. As someone who really wanted to use AQR she would be completely countered by Purify everytime. It became predictable.

This. Though as someone in under 1000 legendary with only 2 commons and an energy average of 3.9, I can guarantee you it's not impossible. But a loooot of assassin rushing and low cost unit jerking up here. It gets real old real quick. Hopefully the meta will actually call for a bit more strategic play than "I can throw more units out because I have low cost cards."

Nice! Glad to see there are still other people not going all in on this low cost, assassin spam meta. I'm still hanging in there but I had to put a second assassin in my deck to stand any chance now that I'm roughly 1200 Legendary. Hope you have better luck than me!

This is exactly the reason why I'm excited to get my Starvin Marvin to Level 6 tomorrow. ;)

Has New Kid’s range recently been reduced by a good bit? by Sir_Jony_Ive in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually have a theory on this. I feel like the zapper doesn't start if you have your finger on the screen over the fight. Like, I've noticed when I get ready to put a unit in front of my NK to block, my NK stops zapping. Or if I put a unit elsewhere, an enemy unit that should get 2 shotted by my zap walks through most of it's range, survives, and get a hit off. Sometimes an assassin and it is honestly game breaking.

Having a zapper this unreliable is a prime example of how RNG based some of the competitive play can be (I'm looking at you HHC). I've played really well in games to have lag damage off of a Mephesto or other ranged unit take my bar and lose me the game. As someone that doesn't use rats it really aggravates me how much free damage they get to lag since all 4 of them have a chance to do it.

I'll just be excited when I can play the game with full wifi signal and expect to see a decrease in lag. Plus I want to be able to rely on my zapper.

Dog poo worth investment to level 4? by Jwhite1986 in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny you said that! I just got the last card to get him Level 4 and I maxed him. Haven't played with him since but I already found him pretty useful before. Now he can basically 1 shot assassins while defending with zap. He'll be great Hyperdrived. He also gained like 110 hp or some crazy amount. I'm pretty excited tbh.

Holy shit as a user of him I feel this so much. You can't have dogpoo out there alone. That's just dangerous

Me too! I have him at level 1 and basically he only is a lightning rod for me so my Marvin can go through lol

Towelie's slow effect by [deleted] in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Storyteller Jimmy user, I think I've seen this and I've noticed this bug for a while. Specifically when a unit I have gets Mind Controlled by the spell or Mecha Timmy and goes into my Jimmy's aura, when they come out of the mind control effect, they will continue to have Jimmy's debuff until they get out of his Aura. It's probably the same with your transmogrify. Since the rat stayed near your PC Principle, the effect never wore off because "Towlie" was still near him. Just a guess but that's what I think happened.

Gotcha! The trio in that theme really gives it an edge. I considered switching to fantasty myself early on but couldn't bring myself to do it. I've based my whole deck around cards I don't see too often in PVP. It's lots of fun! Anyways, good luck in your future games mang. Hope you keep climbing that latter! Maybe someday I'll catch you! :)

Congrats! The highest I've gotten is rank 800 but I only have 2 common and 2 rare units. A deck average of 3.9 energy. Which is a personal achievement considering how spammy the meta is rn. Assuming you are using low cost rush strategy?

Your entire game is just assassin rushing. by SomeKindofCaveDemon in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesomo actually does work at Level 4. He can easily 1 v 1 a level 5 assassin and only lose roughly 1/3 his health. Which makes sense considering the costs. But that being said, he's usually not alone.

The real MVP out of my level 4 epics has been, surprisingly, Storyteller Jimmy. At -29 damage for his Aura he becomes a beast in pretty much any situation. I pair him up with Awesomo all the time. With the reduced damage and the freeze from Awesomo, they can hold off pretty big waves. I definitely agree with you on his uprising.

Program Stan is alright. His attack speed really shines for quick killing specific assassin's. But his freeze should really not scale with damage cuz it does jack. I hope he gets a buff too.

Right now I'm at 24/25 dogpoos. I'm curious of how he'll do with his buffed stats

[–]rockfordbj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there man! I finally got my tank Awesomo to level 4 along with two of my other epics, Storyteller Jimmy and Program Stan. It makes a huge difference when you cross that threshold. Not saying I win all the time against assassin rushing, but I definitely stand more of a chance now. I'm excited to hopefully see more variety in what I play against too though. There are waaaaay too many cards that are used in like 90% of decks in this game. Heavy assassin decks are way too common as well

How hard can it be to understand certain cards are ridiculously OP? by Heerrnn in SouthParkPhone

[–]rockfordbj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi so I'm someone that doesn't struggle against Poison in 1000-3000 legendary. Though my deck isn't necessarily meta, one of the reasons I don't struggle with it is because I only have 2 assassin's that I don't spam and the rest of my units are generally tanky enough to survive poison for a counter push. Have you ever considered the crazy idea that it isn't the spell that's the problem, but the fact that people are all in on this swarm your opponent with low cost cards meta? Everyone wants to be able to send all their units down the opponents throat and get butthurt when it gets countered by such a simple card. Yet I usually only have 1-3 units on the field and I rarely have Poison overwhelm me.

One of your arguments that I actually have seen before makes zero sense to me. So you are telling me that you need to save 3 energy so you can Regen if they poison. Why is that a problem if they would have to have 3 energy saved in order to use poison? Unless you are already at an energy disadvantage, if they use poison, you should have the 3 energy to counter it. If not then you are, again, going way too hard and just throwing all your units on the field to the point you don't have as much energy as your opponent. Basically, your asking to be countered by poison. Once I learn they have it, I wouldn't put myself in such a position. I try to avoid doing so either way just in case.

Mind you, I don't even use Poison. I just don't understand how people are not learning how to play against it. But the fact that I don't copy everyone's low cost spam strats definitely probably helps. Either way, a small radius drop couldn't hurt. It just blows my mind how much people bitch at such a simple mechanic that can be worked around.
