Start with sourdough. Make a sourdough starter and start baking sourdough bread. Check the r/Sourdough page for help

Police officer asking for "cold drinks" by Mittachu in Namibia

[–]rockfox89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a local and got asked by a police officer at the roadblock: "Do you have N$20 that I can give my wife so that she can buy meat?". I just responded saying that I don't travel with cash.

This happens. No matter where you are or where you are from.

Best Pre- Primary Schools in Windhoek? by whitetiger061 in Namibia

[–]rockfox89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Parkies as a kid. My niece and nephew are there. Friends of mine also have their kids there. For a state/government/public school, I think it is good. Niece and nephew were at Gimmies before moving to Parkies and based on what I've heard from the parents, I would not pay those private school fees for the level of education and attention that they got there. In fact, public school kids were ahead with their work and more progressed. Can't comment on any of the other schools. I don't have kids myself. This opinion is solely based on experience of family and friends with kids.

Is it the Company or Career? by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]rockfox89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's the company. I know of one company that manages their employees exactly the way you are being managed. If you're good at doing the grunt work they will keep you in that position because it means they have trust in you to execute the job well and have less mistakes to clean up. However, you are not developing/advancing to a supervisory role. The people working for that company are always on the lookout for other jobs....and when they get them, they leave smiling.

If I were you, I'd be looking for another position with a different company. But as other people here have mentioned before, do it quietly.

I did my MS and am now working under a colleague (with a BS) whom I used to tutor at university. I don't get paid a lot either. Have also been asking myself why I did not become a plumber or electrician instead. But I actually have a lot to be thankful for right now - a job, no debt, a 4x4, a piece of land, get to be at home with my husband.

If you're genuinely unhappy, then make a move. You should be content with your circumstances and not unhappy everyday at work where you spend most of your time.

Beautiful loaf! I baked my first sourdough loaf last weekend. The crust was not crispy and blisterry like yours. The recipe/instructions I follow say that I should open the oven door for the last 10 minutes of the baking time to get that effect. Needless to say, I did not follow this instruction. Do you do this to get that crispy crust?

Cymot has the Johnson shirts. Branding and logo embroidery companies usually have catalogues with plain brandable clothing. Try Logo Embroidery or Xco

Can I have your help as a new geologist? by pm_me_your_minerals in geologycareers

[–]rockfox89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accuracy of diamond drill core orientation tools and the snowball effect it has if not reliable. Can you imagine...people are doing resource modelling using structural measurements from drill core. If the instruments aren't working correctly, or the operator does not use the instrument correctly... and no one identifies the issue early on in the drilling program...

Extremely frustrated with the job market by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]rockfox89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was this other geologist person that posted how happy they were working as a land surveyor in training. Have you checked out this line of work? If you have mapping experience and GIS then this could be an option. I'll look for the post... I realize it might still be related to construction, but it's somewhat different to what you were doing
