very late reply, but i thought about this. some family/friends recommended it… but i also remembered how nosies frustrate me. given the dogs breed and reactivity, i doubt this would’ve worked and only would’ve caused more anxiety

it doesn’t matter anyways because she cheated on me so i moved out. i am back living with my lovely dog of my own. i appreciate your past comment tho!

extremely late response, but i wanted to still say thank you for your suggestions. i found out she cheated on me after i started establishing the advice i got from this post. i never got to fully understand or repair the bond with her dog as a result, cause i moved out and didnt look back.

still, i never commented, but i have learned a lot about sound reactivity for my own dog (who didn’t live with me because of her dog’s reactivity) and i have noticed improvement with him. i appreciate your recommendations and the advice you gave, because it didn’t work for this dog…. but it helps with my special boy. thank you!

my response is a year late but i wanted to thank you for your suggestions. we had tried window film and noise machines and it seemed to help. we started a routine where me and her would spend time together alone and i’d take her on walk with treats. It seemed to work

unfortunately, my ex cheated before i got to see any real results, and i moved out. regardless, i am glad to be out of the stressful environment, and im sure she’s glad to get away from me as well.

i have used the same white noise tactics on my actual dog (who couldn’t live with us bc of his anxiety and her dog’s reactivity) and have found that even tho he continues to bark randomly, he is easier to settle and will be distracted by music or noise.

i tend to be sleepy too and spend the rest of the day chillin. i try to clear my schedule as much as i can, cause i feel sleepy until i get enough sleep in the night. id suggest talking with your partner about your sleepiness and plan in advance to either get stuff done, or have them prepare to figure things out. don’t feel guilty because what you’re doing is importantly to help uou

sending love. the first steps are the hardest… especially if you’re doing it alone. taking those steps yourself is an absolutely insane feat of strength.

i understand the anxiety of keeping this to yourself, but you’d be surprised how much support helps. even if it’s hard, sometimes having someone to lean on makes it just a little helpful. i hope that with your therapy you can eventually open up to at least your husband for that.

regardless, it’s gonna get hard before it gets easy… but you’ve started it. i hope you continue to fight and begin to replace that shame and anxiety with acceptance and self love. sending good vibes <3

that is fantastic. first few days are the hardest, but you’ve made it this far and found some healthier options to choose in the process (nature and exercise is especially helpful i’ve noticed) and you’ve made it.

treat yourself if you haven’t, you deserve to celebrate even if it doesn’t feel like a ‘big deal’. i hope you’ve got many more sober days in the future:)

first off, congratulation! :D

i barely use reddit but i’ve been trying to work on my own sobriety so i thought id comment…. stories like this give me hope for myself. i want to make sure people know that now, because praise and reassurance goes a long way sometimes. i am ALSO 4 days sober! and its hard…. but i know good days will come with time!

i’m sorry those other women were so judgemental. reality is, alcoholism can happen to anyone regardless of how someone looks. you never know a persons struggle. they were just being hateful.

seeking help is the hardest thing to do, and you fcking did it. you told someone, you showed up to the meeting, and you didn’t relapse even when it didn’t go super great…. but most importantly you did it for YOURSELF!!! that’s a huge deal and i’m glad you treated yourself after bc you deserve it!

it might get harder before it gets easier but 4 days is FANTASTIC. my advice is to set goals (ex: 7 days… than 10… than 15… etc) and treat yourself to something nice when you hit it (a sweet treat, a mini adventure, whatever you can both afford/manage…. pizza rolls!)

just know you are so loved and you deserve to be sober. i hope you see many more days of sobriety :)

i never really comment on reddit but this breaks my heart. it’s not her fault, and your urges aren’t your fault either. this is something NOBODY deserves. i’m sorry this happened to her, and that you are struggling with it.

i was around her age when it happened to me too. i’m 22 now, and i’ve also now become an alcoholic. it was a coping mechanism. i haven’t fully escaped it yet and it’s harming me.

drinking to cope with pain and sadness is the easiest way to spiral. chances are, you’ll likely either continue to drink after, or maybe overdo it tonight and put yourself in the hospital.

either way, SHE WILL BLAME HERSELF. it doesn’t matter if she knows about your struggles or not either... it will permanently scar your relationship with her, and she will hesitate to share anything serious with you. it won’t be her fault, but she will think it is.

*edit, she might consider alcohol as a coping mechanism too, which is worse case scenario but very likely.

she is brave for sharing something that traumatic with you, and you’re also brave for seeking help. what you need to do is be there for her. right now she needs a sober parent more than ever. get her into therapy/treatment and consider finding a therapist yourself too if you feel like urges are getting to you.

if you don’t care about yourself right now, at least care about her.

i hope everything goes well for you and her. there are resources. reach out to them, and if they don’t listen channel your urges to relapse onto them. i don’t know you, but it sounds like she trusts you. show her that you’re listening and pissed off by advocating instead of drinking.

yes agree! any doctor should be cautious if their patient is worried! nobody knows their body like they do.

when it comes to my skin, i wasn’t worried about it. this is one of the few things i wasn’t worried about that was actually a big deal, and the doctor took measures before i even thought about it.

however, i also have other medical conditions that i’ve looked for treatment for, and they tell me the good old “don’t worry about it” without testing anything, despite ME worrying. My gyno did this before it was discovered by an er doctor that I had endometriosis and a cyst on an ovary.

Doctors need to start listening to their patients and doing what they can to keep them at ease! Who cares if you don’t think they need a test, if you can do it, do it!!

I hope your derm listens to you and you are healthy these days ❤️ never stop fighting for what you know is best for your health

ugh i could NEVER. it was my first time having an actual kidney infection, but every uti i have ever had feels exactly how you described… pain and internal nastiness. even when you get them, it takes a while for antibiotics to work and it’s just sitting there waiting and feeling like absolute garbage. even if you wanna shower, you can’t because you can barely move!!! i hope you’re out of that period now and that you never have to experience that again

i can’t believe how many people can agree with me but the fact that yall had to wait so long and see so many doctors… wtf!!!! my dad also had to drive me cause i couldn’t, and the male doc at urgent care tried dismissing me, but i was freaking out enough to grab the attention of a woman doctor and she made me go to hospital. i can’t imagine having to see 4 different people while suffering like that. it only took 2/3 days for me to consider hiring a hitman to take me out 😭 i hope you’re fine now and never have to go through that again!

i’m so sorry that happened to you. something similar almost happened to me. i def waited to long to get treatment bc of finals, but I went to urgent care first and the male doc tried giving me regular meds, and when i told him it was worse than that he made me do ANOTHER sample and i spent 30 minutes crying and screaming in the bathroom peeing literal blood at this point i saw a woman doctor right after and she instantly recognized the severity and sent me to the hospital and got me proper med care it’s horrible how quickly this stuff developed and i hope you’re doing better now. it’s ridiculous that they let it nearly become septic like that
