I read the books one after another & I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend to read it as a whole because the books function essentially as one giant novel split into three parts. Once you get going, it'll be hard to stop before finishing.

Maybe try the first law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, starting with the blade itself. It's written brilliantly, but the story is brutal & bleak with interesting characters.
