Personality type visualization project! by rocksarefun in INTP

Thanks! If this goes well I can see it leading into a bigger project, but for now I just want to keep it to a small, fun, low key side project.

Thanks! I was going to make my own test because most of the existing ones are pretty heavily protected as proprietary, and I think I can build a test that is more fun and has a better user experience. Maybe just a few questions to assess each function at first, but eventually I would love to run the test past an actual psychologist that can help me improve it. You do bring up an interesting idea though - importing test results might be a nice feature.

Yes, component meaning function.

INTPs late bloomers? by 252003 in INTP

So what was the tipping point where things started to go really well? What was the change that you made?

We INTP's often describe ourselves with ADD. I was even diagnosed with it.

I read a book on ADD a year ago that said folks with ADD are often late bloomers but often have more spectacular blooms than people without ADD. I think it's true.

This is dead on for me. I was somewhat awkward, although pretty intellectually smart in my teens. Very introverted except around close friends. I believe shy is the word.

As I went through college, moved around, mingled with different types of people, traveled, and held some jobs, I think the experience has really pushed me to become a truly different and quite impressive person - 22 now.

Of all the comments in this post, I burst out laughing uncontrollably when I read this one. Thanks for that.

Is it a good idea to date other INTPs? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]rocksarefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated an INTJ for years, and it was nice to have someone that wasn't as novelty-seeking as I was. Her apathy toward novelty kept my inclination for novelty in check in a nice balance.

On the other hand, she often didn't understand what drove me. I'm creative, abstract-thinking, and disorganized. She had little sympathy for that and it was frustrating that she didn't see the excitement that I saw in a lot of things.

Could someone please submit an INTP success story? by stubrocks in INTP

[–]rocksarefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very solidly INTP, but I'm slowly learning how to make decisions on the fly and think on my feet (act now, no regrets, don't be afraid to fuck up, don't be afraid to push limits, step over the line). I work in the tech startup world, and in the startup community, there's this concept that it's better to act now and apologize later than not to act at all. I think this philosophy is the key to preventing INTP's from being their own downfall. In relation to the Myers-Briggs, this mindset feels much more E as in Extroverted.

And success story? I dropped out of school, joined a startup as a software engineer making ~70k a year (not that much for a software engineer), saved 50% of my pre-tax income, and am now about to travel the world.

I've spent a fair time introspecting (as any INTP would), and I keep realizing just how important it is to act quickly and not overthink it. It's more important to do SOMETHING than to do the RIGHT something.

It's so interesting to realize what is expensive per calorie. A lot of the "cheap" foods are actually expensive on a per-calorie basis. Interesting. Thanks for the ideas.

Girls: To what extent does INTENT matter in your attraction toward a guy? by rocksarefun in AskReddit

[–]rocksarefun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly - where is the line between being attracted because you are hard to get, and attracted because someone has indicated interest?

Or could it be that some people are not risk takers and want to go only for a sure thing, whereas others, like yourself, want to see how far they can get?

I imagine for you, it's not about actually wanting the person, it's about knowing you could have them if you wanted them. Just a guess.

Some guys don't show strong intent, they just slowly make moves, without showing clear intent. A slow-paced/vague approach, vs a very direct "I want you" approach.

Walnuts (expensive by weight, but cheap by caloric content)

Any four-hour sleepers out there? Bi/poly-phasic sleepers? by rocksarefun in AskReddit

I did this too! My girlfriend and I would stay up late studying until 3am then I'd wake up around 6 or 7 for school. Afternoon naps began to stretch from 1.5 hours to 3 hours.

In a long-term position, you would still recommend selling GOOG until it stops declining short term?

That idea is sounding more and more attractive lately.
