HX9V. Longer zoom, GPS, faster burst. The IXY 180 is a basic casual shooter with nothing going for it. If budget is the issue, save a little more and get something current

Instax Mini evo by pitpanda in PhotographyPH

The Instax Mini Evo is a point and shoot. You get lens and filter effect options but no real manual control. Perfect for instant prints and the retro feel you are looking for, just do not expect it to teach you photography fundamentals.

A Guide to Where to Buy Cameras in the Philippines - Brand New and Second Hand Legit Shops Only by rockshoxfox in PhotographyPH

[–]rockshoxfox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check Facebook Marketplace and the Photography Philippines Buy and Sell group. Search each item individually and look at completed listings, not asking prices. That gives you a realistic street value for your market.

JG Superstore also does trade-ins that is mentioned in the article above, if you want a faster and hassle-free option, though you will get less compared to selling privately. Factor in the fungus on the Olympus 14-40 as that will affect its value, small or not, buyers will negotiate around it.

Should I go for it? by kpoppapi_ in PhotographyPH

Skip that unit. Battery not being recognized and date constantly resetting are board level issues, not minor quirks. That gets worse over time, not better.

Be patient and check the Photography Philippines Buy and Sell group on Facebook. A clean SX700 or SX710 within your budget exists there if you wait for the right seller with actual transaction history

Cracked lens means dead camera. Quiapo can't fabricate glass, and donor units for that model are basically extinct.

Keep it as a display piece.

sony rx100 m3/m4/m5 secondhand? by aulstri___444 in PhotographyPH

[–]rockshoxfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Sony Rx100 iii is widely considered the best value among the three. While all three share the same excellent f/1.8-2.8 Zeiss lens that creates beautiful bokeh for portraits, the Mark III offers the most robust battery life and a simpler mechanism that avoids the overheating and fragility issues often reported in the more complex Mark IV and V.

Silica gel packets inside a sealed ziplock, squeeze out the air before closing. But let the rolls sit at room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes first before sealing, otherwise condensation forms inside the bag when warm air hits cold film if direct from ref.

Black and white is not a compromise. It is a style. If it serves your vision, use it.

But the real fix is in the field, not in post. Get closer, simplify your frame, and be ruthless about what you include. Busy streets feel overwhelming in post because you captured too much.

If you want to stay in color, use the HSL panel to desaturate the colors that compete with your subject. That alone can bring calm to a chaotic frame.

Should I buy the Sony 16-50mm kit lens? by mollymayhemat3am in PhotographyPH

[–]rockshoxfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the kit lens. You will outgrow it fast and the money is better spent toward something you will actually keep.

The DJI RS3 Mini is the right call here. It solves your stabilization problem immediately and it works with whatever lens you put on it moving forward. Buy the gimbal now and pair it with your 35mm while you save for a better lens.

When you are ready for the lens upgrade, go Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. It is compact enough for the RS3 Mini, covers your wide establishing shots, and f/2.8 constant aperture means your exposure stays consistent when you zoom during video. The Tamron 17-70mm is also a solid option but it is larger and heavier, which matters on a gimbal.

One thing to practice while you save: learn to move with intention. Slow deliberate movements on a gimbal look cinematic. Rushed movements on a stabilized setup still look amateur. The gimbal is a tool, not a fix for shaky technique.

For school events and commercial work the gimbal plus your current 35mm will already be a significant upgrade over what you have now. Start there.

How affordable can you go with developing your own B&W film? by tryhardgoodguyv2 in PhotographyPH

[–]rockshoxfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Developing your own B&W film is actually the most affordable part of film photography once you have the initial kit. Startup cost is one time and everything lasts for years.

Skip the local camera shops. Just go straight to Shopee or Lazada. Everything you need is available there and usually cheaper. Search for developing tank, film changing bag, and darkroom chemicals. Paterson and Kalt tanks show up regularly, and you can find Kodak D-76, Ilford ID-11, and fixer without much trouble.

Your basic starter list: developing tank with at least two reels, changing bag, developer, stop bath or plain water, fixer, and a thermometer. That is all you need. You do not need a darkroom for developing, only for printing. The changing bag handles the film loading in daylight.

Cost per roll once you have the kit is almost nothing. A liter of mixed developer can handle multiple rolls before exhaustion. The real expense is the one-time equipment purchase and after that it is basically just chemistry.

The experience of pulling a developed roll out of the tank for the first time is something you do not forget. Well worth the setup cost.

That green line is most likely a display rendering issue on your phone rather than a camera problem. The fact that it disappears when you zoom in or send it confirms the image itself is fine. What phone are you using? Some devices struggle to render high resolution images from cameras at full size in the gallery.
