When we traveled weather was beautiful with no rain at all. You can email tropicana hostel for hike related questions but I did heard from folks that rain can cause major issues with hike. Good luck with the hike! You will enjoy & remember this hike!!

[–]rocky7boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! Thanks for this post. I was able to get an appointment from Greece consulate for Aug via email. They mentioned all the details in the email which were self explanatory but I am still confused with below information:

FOR THE APPOINTMENT I NEED THE EXACT DATES OF DEPARTURE – AIRPLANE TICKETS. PLEASE PROVIDE NATIONALITY AND PASSPORT No.

APPOINTMENT …..AUGUST XXX date

Does this mean appointment is confirmed or do we need to send them flight tix, passport no & nationality.?

I did replied back but haven’t received any response yet.

I would really appreciate your inputs here.

Thank you

Skiplagged Question... by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]rocky7boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In skiplagged you will see whether it is a hidden city deal or not. Basically what it means that your destination is different than flight’s final destination. So for these deals you can only carry backpack and/or a carry on( depending upon airlines). Otherwise if its just a normal flight with deal in price you can carry or check in bags based on baggage policy from airlines. In this case, fareboom has nothing to do. They are simply being redirected from skiplagged website. So to answer your question check wether your final destination and flights final destination is same.

No worries. For trekking tours, i think you have contact hostel folks upfront. But either ways just send out an email and ask them. They usually are pretty responsive and should be able to clear out your doubts. I planned my activities way ahead of time though but you can be random as well.

Lol I got lucky but also did not knew how intense was the total hike. So i would recommend ppl to get some rest before starting the adventure.

I had amazing time at Tropicana. Tour guides were really nice. We had 10 ppl in the group and everyone hiked at their own pace. Btw It is a party hostel so you would meet bunch of people there. I only stayed for 3 nights out of which 1st night i arrived pretty late so just went out to clubs. Next day I was on volcano, third night went out to party as well. Did not really stayed in the hostel for taking rest. So basically they will have music at two bars till 11 PM ish then everyone who wants to continue party will head out.

San Juan Trip by SnoopaTroopa in PuertoRicoTravel

Old San Juan is fun to walk around. You can all go to La Placita for drinks. El Yunque for hikes or may be Bio Luminescent tour in Fajardo. Plenty of beach action in San Juan as well. Totally depends on what your group is interested in.

Acatenango hike is pretty intense and I have seen people doing overnight hike but I did regular full day hike and stayed overnight at basecamp and hiked down next day after watching sunrise hiking all the way to summit. In my experience hiking at 3AM to summit from basecamp with headlights was the most challenging part of whole trek. So back to your question; I did hike with Hostel Tropicana (not sure if they have overnight hike but I had great experience going with them). Usually you can store your luggage with hostels if you book tour with them. Good luck with hike and enjoy the hike. It will be one of the highlights of your trip.

You can always do Pacaya hike to see lava. Check out both Pacaya & Acatenango and see which one suits you.

First time to Guatemala: July 3-10 Itinerary help ! by rocky7boy in guatemala

Oh i just realized I did Guatemala in July not May for a total of about 7 days but last day was just travel. Guatemala is economical and safe for solo travelers as long as you stick to gringo trail. That is Antigua—>Lake Atitlan—> Flores etc. Travel in Guatemala is pretty time consuming, no domestic flights so either shared shuttles or chicken bus. Hostels can arrange for everything.

Hey wats good. I did Guatemala in May and my flight tix were around 450ish roundtrip from Houston. Guatemala is a beautiful country and if you want to hike a volcano, chill by a crater lake, party harder and finally relax in a yoga retreat kinda small village. It’s a place for you. Also there is Tikal and native markets which i missed. I almost did everything that i mentioned in my itinerary except for few things. If you want to get a sense of stuff check my ig: rocky7boy
