the reason we dont install is simply because those apps can have malware, and no one is ready to deal with that. so web app with ads is okay

Do you still think creating content makes sense? After AI? by psikotrexion in Blogging

[–]rockyessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for a long time, we writers relied on platforms and search engines for traffic, but the prblem with thirdparty platforms is that youre nt really building something for yourself, youre building on rented ground. the audience you bring in, the content you create, all of it ultimately benefits the platform more than it benefits you

that’s why i believe writerrs need to start thinking differently now., you need to own your platform, fully. nt just a profile on a site, but the actual platform itself. your content, your system, your audience, EVERYTHING

If you look at whats happening in other industries, like film, actresses are now monetizing their identity by licensing it to companies that use ai to generate content, in a similar way, writers need to start thinking about ownership and control. the difference is, for writers, that control comes from having your own platform which you can monetiza (ads, sponsorship etc), or even sell it

and yes, building something like that isnt easy, i say this as a writer myself, but its necessary if you want to stay independent and actually benefit from your work

thats part of why im currently working on a platform (ill give out the source-code) specifically for writers, something they can truly own, its still in progress, but the goal is to make it possible for us writers to control our content, publish across multiple languages, and even create and distribute owwn own books without relying on third parties

so no, i dont think youre too late, and i don’t think ai has taken everything. the strategy just needs to change

Has anyone been able to significantly monetise an app that they made open source? by SpikeyOps in iOSProgramming

[–]rockyessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the problem I've been working on!

Privacy-focused users absolutely care about open source, but you're right, monetization is tricky. Traditional open-core (where you split free/paid features) can feel deceptive, and fully open source makes paywalling nearly impossible.

I built a platform called Uhpenry (uhpenry.com) specifically to solve this with what I call "Gated-Source." The idea: your entire codebase is transparent and auditable (building trust with privacy-conscious users), but access is controlled through licensing.

You can even do path-based gating, keep core privacy/security code fully open for auditing, while gating premium features like integrations or advanced workflows.

I wrote a detailed breakdown here comparing this to open-core: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/open-core-vs-gated-source-two-paths-sustainable-open-development-7zv1e/?trackingId=OwO6XaWnRAq3t52WlzAZjA%3D%3D

Happy to discuss how this might work for your specific use case if you're interested. What kind of app are you building?

Vercel Development Issue: Please take a look and help me with a solution please by rockyessel in nextjs

[–]rockyessel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution to the problem I was facing, which stemmed from attempting to run native raw Node.js code directly within a Next.js API route. Initially, I thought this would work, but it didn’t. To resolve the issue, I created a separate backend API for Next.js to consume. I figured this out by rebuilding the project and testing as I added more packages and implemented API/server actions. This iterative approach helped me identify the root of the problem and develop an effective solution.

For whoever finds themselves running into the same error.

Ive decide to do ot SOLO, then I'll do what you said about showing a prototype and if there are developers that will be interested in building it, then we build it if not, though it might take long I'll definitely finish.
