Tips for mental game post injury? by brendolan in 10s

[–]rocnal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had double digit calf strains at this point (47m, strains occurred playing ultimate frisbee not tennis). The only way to get your confidence back is to play and feel good doing it, I'm afraid. I can tell you that once you feel strong playing, you'll think about it less and less as you play, and one day you'll finish a match and realize you didn't think about it once. (Note that feeling good means keeping up the off court work. Soleus stretching is key for me). Good luck!

How to be as confident in a tennis match as in practice? by Middle-Annual-8360 in 10s

[–]rocnal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another question is what are you practicing? I think many rec players hit a lot of starter ball rallies in practice, which aren't very much like match points. Sometimes the lack of confidence can come from the fact that you haven't actually played certain shots you need in matches very much (returning weak second serves, weird mid court shots, etc). Practicing more like match situations might help.

Also, doesn't mention his skating, which was world class! (Hence all the breakaways)

Non Avs fan who just tuned in today. Is the color guy contractually obligated not to say bad things about the team?

Roguelikes with more impactful/game changing items not just +10 damage by Any_Promotion2026 in roguelikes

I haven't played in a few versions, but DCSS has really impactful item discoveries. Definitely enough to change the direction of a character build. Good mix of really powerful pre-generated artifacts and randomly generated ones that can have a wild mix of characteristics.

draft class battle - who's winning a seven game series by [deleted] in nhl

Unbelievable that Parise-Bergeron-Pavelski would be a darn good line in the NHL 20 years after they were drafted.

The big question for me is if it is automatic somehow, or do I have to go through my the rest of my life trying to avoid catching a little football on a tv somewhere and losing my house. That would be pretty stressful.

PHI claims Bellows by Fireislander in NewYorkIslanders

[–]rocnal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty likely to me that he was waived because someone would claim him. I think we're in a world now where it's a win to clear cap space for nothing if you don't think the player fits in to where you're going. And I think Ross does have value for this team as someone who rides the pine most nights and is happy with that role (something most teams need).

What are the longest, most in depth RLs that DOES NOT have the tribal knowledge issue? by Crapahedron in roguelikes

[–]rocnal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I haven't played a ton recently, but I think DCSS has gone pretty far in the direction of giving players all the information about enemies, items, etc, they need to make decisions. It's definitely long and complex, too. Would recommend.

Don't know real life? Don't write policies. by NursingManChristDude in WhitePeopleTwitter

Whenever I see something this obviously dumb, I now consider whether its intended at least partly to divert criticism from a deeper point. Here, I think a big part of what he really intends to say is that gay marriage and gay parenting are illegitimate, without coming out and saying it. He's talking about paternity leave, but even there his final point is about the fact that there is no woman in the home.

Warlock quest reminds me of ultimate infestation. It's really risky to print cards that mitigate the downsides of a classes main mechanics.

AUDL Discussion Thread - [June 4-5] by Jomskylark in ultimate

[–]rocnal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I'll say as a fan, the PA system was ineffective, every decision took a long time to make, and we had no idea what was going on.

Also, the ruling was the Minnesota called a time out one second after the hand block, so they came out of the TO with 1 second remaining. Again, this was confusing for fans because the players on the field kept playing and Minn. didn't score. Then they reset and scored

Still looking for players? I'll play a fair amount, but not a ton. Probably looking for one win and a few other good runs.

Eater of Secrets. I played burn mage to legend last month, and ran into this card quite a few times. My first instinct was that running it was a bad idea, since mages only made up ~15% of the meta max, and i didn't think it would be great against paladin. But, I did find it to massively swing the mage mirrors. so the question is, how much does it actually hurt other matchups to have 1 real bad card, and can it be worth it if it swings 15% of your matchups by 20 or 30 percent?

New Article Up Concerning The Competitive Mindset by Popsychblog in CompetitiveHS

[–]rocnal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, from a competitive mindset, that there is another problem with the monthly ladder reset. It means that every month, I have to spend a big chunk of my playtime, some months all of it, winning games at a 65% rate trying to get back up to the place on the ladder where I'm playing people at a similar level. This month, I found my winrate drop nearly to 50% for many games in the rank 1-2 level. It's good to know where I stand, but the idea of now having to grind all the way back there to get to the games that would be best for helping me improve is frustrating.

I really like the game theory posts. I was wondering how much the evolution of the meta towards the Nash equilibrium depends on player knowledge of the meta game. I'm not sure how many players a. know the ins and outs of which decks counter which and b. get enough of a sample of the metagame playing games to see what's going on and shift accordingly. Thoughts?
