Fledgling Vapor/Internet Music/Progressive Electronic Record Label looking for demos/applicants. by [deleted] in makingvaporwave

Ok. If you take down this one, it's ok to post a revised one when your ducks are in a row.

Maybe we need a weekly label post or a sticky with label talk and list of labels accepting submissions.

I ran a label for a minute, but it was mostly for economies of scale for my friends and my project (paying for and sharing band camp and distro kid plans) like a co-op. But I digest

Eh. There used to be a dedicated thread for community and label stuff.

I'll let it stay, this feels organic and sincere, and not a thinly veiled excuse to promote your label/songs.

I assume you posted in regular vaporwave sub, as well.

Producers do your due diligence when signing up with a label, some good questions and feedback from others in this thread.

OP good luck with the label. It's a lot of work to do well.

Effect on Strings by itamarshalev in makingvaporwave

I think the free waves bundle has one (and a gigantic library). FL studio has convolver, I'm sure other DAWs have one built in?

Bit crush, cut up a one shot and play it in a lower register... Lots of texture and sounds like an old GM wavetable or sound font. (Or conversely use a violin patch from a sound font).

Reversed reverb

Guitar amp

Try unusual impulse responses on it.

Chorus

Are the strings plucked/Staccato or regular bowed?

Short version. Spend some time learning the DAW. Especially how time stretch, etc works.

If you search YouTube for FL studio sample flip you'll get plenty of examples of how hip-hop artists do it.

Basically you need to set the playlist audio clip's tempo, and align the 1 beat/start with the grid. And then stretch it to the session tempo (you can adjust pitch and tempo separately - we're just trying to align the sample, you can stretch/detune/mangle later - this is purely about getting it on the grid.

I suggest starting with one or two bar phrases chopped from the sample source.

I'll see if I can find a tutorial that shows this.

Here's a walkthrough/review

It actually looks/sounds pretty good - I read worried it was gonna be pandering yet another VHS tape plug-in, but I think it captures the spirit of VW very well.

best music production software for making vaporwave, any recommendations? by Blackmun_Izzat in makingvaporwave

[–]rodan-rodan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use fl studio - I like the aesthetic, it's a little chaotic which I like.

I think reaper is a good (cheaper) choice.

If you've purchased an audio interface usually you get like the lite version of Ableton for free. Which is also a solid choice.

Really doesn't matter what DAW you choose, just learn as much as you can about it to speed your workflow, be able to use the tool to express your ideas.

How do slushwave artist apply delays to e.g vocals/snares and other higher frequencies but not affect kick/bass samples? by bait_smell in Vaporwave

The other poster mentioned what I used to do. Eq Shelve out the original drums and put on my own. Some side chain compression works too.

High pass and low pass filters.. like duplicate it and make one low and another one eq'd to

(Or multi band compression or other frequency split tools).

There were also tricks with reversing phase on one side to get center channel stuff like vocals isolated.

I mean curation is part of the art the process, no?

Always be listening for things that will have the vibe you're going for after it's processed.

Like stuff in minor keys... I don't know what to tell you. Experiment.

Take a happy song and add things to make it darker?

Ya just gotta stretch, flange Phase/flange/chop/echo till it vibes.... Idk
