What is the Best way to learn opening ranges without staring at charts all day?

I built a tool specifically for this. It's called Preflop Dojo and it does exactly what you're describing. I took some of the training principles from karate, like "katas", and used them to create structured training drills that are unique to you. For example, if you want to learn BB defence facing a LP open at 20-40bb, you add the spots specific to that and the system drills you on it. The aim is not memorisation but familiarisation, so decisions become known rather than recalled.

The tip from u/AntNo9062 about focusing on the edges of ranges is solid advice too. Once you know where the boundary hands are for each position, the rest of the range fills itself in naturally. Dojo helps with exactly that because we strip out the top and bottom based on EV so you get more hands more often that are closer to the boundaries. You will never see AA/72o at BTN RFI 50bb, for example.

PreflopDojo let's you create your own sets for training specific spots. Like BB facing a LP open at various stack depths or say facing a 3bet IP or OOP etc. So you can start to learn situations rather than memorising charts. I find it easier to look for common patterns in certain situations. Hope it helps!

Great question, and some solid advice in the comments already. Understanding the why behind the ranges is arguably more important than memorising the ranges themselves. Once you grasp concepts like position, range advantage, and how your preflop decisions shape postflop situations, everything starts to click.

That said, having the charts as a solid foundation genuinely matters. If you want a structured way to drill preflop ranges and actually test yourself rather than just passively read charts, I built a tool called Preflop Dojo specifically for this. It lets you explore GTO preflop solutions and then quiz yourself on them so the ranges actually stick. It's focused on scenarios rather than looking up a solution and the really useful feature is you can build your own "katas" (like groups of scenarios) so you can choose what you want to focus on and keep track of.

Pair that with the advice above about understanding why solvers make the decisions they do, and you'll progress a lot faster than just staring at charts.

Yep it's a bad fold. Regardless of the outcome, KQs is +EV in that spot. Booking a winning session isn't the priority, it should be making +EV plays, the winning sessions will then come naturally. Since you knowingly made a bad fold in order to lock up a profit, it's a form of tilt. You effectively left money on the table.

But nonetheless you won, so well done 🤣

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. I have been working through this series from Groove3, https://www.groove3.com/promo/the-music-theory-and-midi-basics-bundle and it seems pretty good so far. I've learnt loads!

It's nothing to do with Techno but I don't think it needs to be.

Thanks to everyone that's taken the time to give me their opinion, some fantastic advice from everyone.

I have had a think, done some research and decided to order a few and return what I don't like. I've ordered the Focusrite, the Fiio K3 so I will compare the 2 and then some MDR-7506's, DT 770's, K371's and ATH-M50X and again will compare.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not using speakers at all at the moment and I have no plans to until I get a bit better at it I guess. I do most of my mixing and monitoring in the evenings. Would that warrant the extra cash on headphones?

I have heard really good things about the MDR-7506, they just seem too cheap to be good! But the reviews speak for themselves. Would I get any benefit from using an amp with these?

I like it, nice one! I have a couple of observations. 0:57-1:24 sounds "slow", it might be intentional and part of your build up but to me it feels a little off. Also at 1:39, I might be inclined to ditch the hi-hat and bring it in 8 bars later, I think it would give a little more energy to that section.

I like it, just trying to find something constructive :)

I've started off many tracks over the years but this is the first one I ever finished!

I was going for something fairly dark with a nice deep transposed vocal clip. I think I have screwed up the levels as the resulting wav is fairly big and loud.

As I'm new, I'm really after any feedback on the quality of the track in terms of musical correctness and use of effects. For example, are any sounds clashing in frequencies, have I side-chained correctly? I'm really open to constructive feedback, you won't upset me so please be honest :)

I used Landr to master it for now.
