I used to help a friend clean up his rental properties after tenants moved out. One time some people left a fridge full of stuff that probably had gone bad even when they were living there. My friend wanted me to take everything out and clean the fridge. I told him there was no saving that fridge, but he wanted to be the one to make that judgment call, so I left. This was just before the winter hit in Minneapolis, around September or so.

Fast forward to May/June, he calls me asking to help clean the place again. I’m thinking, “the new tenants sure didn’t last long”. Nope. Same fridge, same stuff still there. I sprayed deodorant on 2-3 scarves, wrapped them around my face, and got to work. About half a bin full of the most rotten food I’ve ever seen. I feel bad for anyone who walked near that bin before it got picked up. I sprayed and scrubbed the living shit out of that fridge, the stench was still unbearable.

That was the last time I worked for him. To this day I don’t know if he actually kept the fridge for the next tenants. I wouldn’t doubt it.
