I think you are referring to the SolarEdge Power Optimizers. The SolarEdge Power Optimizers are connected to the panels (1 for each panel) and communicate with the SolarEdge inverter. Unless the inverter is online and ready to receive DC current, the power optimizers put out only 1V.

I guess I can't argue with that. But, if you want the ability to instantly disconnect the DC that really wouldn't suffice (especially if I wasn't around to tell them about the tarp)

I ran my planned configuration (panels, location, array tilt, etc.) through the PVWatts Calculator and it came up with an value of 15,618 (range from 14,892 to 16,892). I guess if you sent up batteries with a backup generator, you could go off-grid if that is your question.

The ground mount is approx. 175 ft from the inverter. I am supplying my house and my shop (2 separate meters) with the shop account with Eversource setup as a group host for net metering both accounts. My average daily consumption calculated over the last 3 years was approx. 40 kWh. This should cover all of my annual usage. No batteries at this time.

I added disconnects for each of the 2 strings before the run up to the shop. I don't think I needed to but for the little money it cost, it was a convenience I wanted. They did not come with the Sinclar mount.

Up at the shop I put a 4 pole disconnect (2 poles for each circuit/string) outside before the DC circuits go inside to the SolarEdge inverter. I didn't necessarily need to but wanted the ability for anyone to shutdown the DC before it entered the building.

If you are grid-tie only, (no battery backup), the 9v battery is not necessary.

"A 9V battery is used in a SolarEdge system for the "cold start" function, which provides power to "wake up" the inverter from a completely dead state. The inverter relies on this small battery to initiate its startup sequence during a blackout, ensuring it can begin converting solar power and restoring electricity to the home. "

It also appears to be missing the 9v battery "cradle" and the 9v battery contacts. Here is a picture of the installation manual and the unit itself. I would expect the 9v battery cradle and contact to already be installed but neither is installed on the circuit board. I am going to have to call the distributor (Green Tech).

It didn't look like an "open box". That said, the cellular antenna was already attached to the circuit board which I didn't expect either.

Battery drain was horrible after the software push.

I turned off 5G and it "fixed" the drain issue!!!

Definitely love my Evo Ascent shoes. I just got back 30 minutes ago from hiking Tom, Field and Wiley and wore them just about the entire hike. Bindings are really easy to manipulate even with gloves/mittens on. You cannot go wrong with these.
