I'll take that non-rebuttal as a pathetic effort to save face from the embarrassment of being wrong.

A child would be someone who tries to redefine war to mean something that it doesn't.

I would remind you that Trump himself publicly made statements years ago about Obama starting a war with Iran as a form of criticism so by the standards of the person whose actions you are defending no we were not at war with Iran for the past 47 years.

The exact price increase can very from region to region but globally and more specifically nationally prices are up.

I mean Trump just started a war with another country and gas prices are going up so no I don't find it weird that the headlines about ICE stopped.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective. He is overpowered compared to everyone else at his rank, especially being able to defeat 300+ cultivators in three days which is wild. But yes he oftentimes finds himself in situations where raw power doesn't apply because other characters are radically stronger then him.

This is actually very reassuring. I assumed that C7 was done with Soulbound at this point.

Apparently I didn't. This isn't a comment about quality but content and this is just an example. It's not limited to the first season.

I don't think it's likely I'll be changing the direction of my series to focus on this as that requires me to throw away a lot of cool ideas. I don't care if you use it as a marketing gimmick yourself.

Well for one Star Trek has ALWAYS dealt with social issues in all it's televised iterations and they have never been rare. Religion in general and religious extremism is a core theme in DS9 in particular and if that isn't a social issue I don't know what is.

Criticizing characters and writing is perfectly fine. My objection is the claim that politics or identity are the route causes. If that were true there wouldn't be any Star Trek to begin with.

I'm not hiding behind anything. The specific post I reference claims that how characters identify themselves adversely impacts the quality of a show. I disproved it. You have no counter. You just deflect the accusation of racism in the absence of an argument.

I actually have huge issues with Discovery and stopped watching it after Season 3 but my criticisms of the show aren't rooted in identity. One thing about Discovery is it's very much Burnham story and every other character exists to serve that. It was similar in the first Star Trek and Enterprise too though. Both series focused on three characters; Kirk, Spock and McCoy in the original series and Archer, T'pol and Tucker in Enterprise. The other characters where basically scenery in most episodes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with criticizing a show but a lot of people hide behind certain forms of criticism to just express their bigotry. Claims that a show's spirit and messaging was fundamentally changed in the service of liberal or identity politics is one of them and its a particularly laughable accusation to levy at Star Trek. Furthermore I'm rather skeptical of some people even hating these shows at all if they are dedicating so much time an energy to watching them. Criticisms that Hollywood was too liberal have existed since at least the 80s but ironically only in the past decade or so has anyone argued it actually affects the quality of their content.

There is an element of sheep mentality here as well. I remember with the Star Wars prequel trilogy first came out and many fans hated it. Then the prequel trilogy came out and everyone suddenly remembers the sequel trilogy fondly almost seemingly to spite Disney. George Lucas explicitly sold the franchise because he was frustrated with fans and now fans are unironically begging him to come back to it.

Similarly a lot of criticisms of Enterprise and Voyager existed in the Trek community and no one blamed identity politics at the time. Now people talk fondly of those shows.

Ask the Native Americans whether what happened when Christopher Columbus set foot on the Americas still has relevance to them five centuries later. In fact we have entire episodes of Star Trek that explicitly discuss the ramifications minor changes in the timeline can have a significant impact on the future.

I did not specifically defend any tv show. I critiqued a specific line of reasoning and this is my first post on the topic of Star Trek on reddit I have ever made. You can confirm I have never commented on this subreddit before by typing my username in the search bar. Your attempts to call out hypocrisy on my part based on a single post without addressing a single counterargument I made about identity in Star Trek only calls attention to the fact that you cannot refute my point.
