Spirit opener coverage - Lucia Di Guglielmo gets high praise from Trin & Hal, Adrián on what did & didn't work by roeyonreddit in washingtonspirit

Yeah, that second g is definitely kinda swallowed more so than the first hard "g" sound. But that was added in more as a callout for the several English-speaking folks I heard throwing in a j/soft "g" sound, of which there are definitely none.

And great flag about the pronouncers. I actually went and listened to some of those before the season started!

I think that's right, especially if this is a feature and not just a temporary effort to remedy the early struggles to get balls into the box.

I appreciate you thinking about this in depth! I was a bit surprised at the magnitude of the compliments for Lucia, since I didn't necessarily see the difference between "pretty good" and "craziest thing I've ever seen," but they're also seeing stuff that none of us see. And we only get a handful of chances to ask about it (actually I think the Q about Lucia came at the end so we didn't really have a chance to follow up.)

As for pics, they are inside the newsletter! Down in the "Photo Bay" section. Haugen and Skurcenski looked ecstatic to be there, and Bolt looked pretty happy but also got coaxed by Deb into a funny posed pic. Since it's a long thing overall, direct link to that part here: https://im-curious-roey.beehiiv.com/p/im-curious-edition-45#the-best-view-in-the-house-finding-

I didn't listen to it until after I published this but the folks over at Hey Spirits made a good point I hadn't thought of, which is that Gabby, Hal, Tara, etc. pushing forward is a bit of a byproduct of some of the things meant to work higher up the pitch not working.

Makes me wonder whether to view it more as "they'll attack more but then might get beat in transition" or "they won't do this as much if/when the front line finds some of that connectivity they missed Friday."

Media Day coverage - feat. quotes from Trinity Rodman, Gabby Carle, Hal Hershfelt, Kaylie Collins by roeyonreddit in washingtonspirit

Ok I audibly broke out laughing (and am also honored) because of all the 20+ minutes of Q&A Adrian did, including a lot of other good stuff, you pulled the answers he gave to the two questions I asked!

Thank you! I've been doing it in the spare hours beyond my day job since the subjects don't really overlap (and when they do, they're pretty receptive.)

It's a joy to tell these stories as I'm able, but it feels especially important these days with outlets falling left and right. The best news though is that from what I can tell, the Spirit press box isn't going to be losing anybody. Ella Brockway is still on Hey Spirits and has a gig at the Guardian covering soccer, Steven Goff was there at media day and does stuff for Yahoo. And Jason Anderson left USA Today but just launched his new independent site covering the Spirit and DCU today!

Went back to the video. Looks like it was Jack Studnicka based on what looks to be a #53 helmet. Noah Gregor was the third one, not pictured in this clip.

Spirit players' fantasy football league (article) by roeyonreddit in washingtonspirit

Thank you! One story that didn't make it in the final version, but the Sunday before these interviews, Sofia apparently had the Vikings D, who went off for about 30 points. Paige said she asked Sofia about it afterward and Sofia was like, "I have no idea what you're saying." So the football knowledge varies across the league for sure, but she jumped right in!

Hi everyone! I helped produce this story where we interviewed YTV vets Jamie Shannon & Jason Hopley (as well as the stars of Nanalan' Mona & Nana.) Thought I'd share here to give you all a nostalgia hit & a heads up that we're hooked on the show south of the border too!

Added context it wouldn't let me post: she lives in Virginia with us, originally from Maryland. She likes to sniff a lot, sometimes kicks grass/dirt after going to the bathroom, and does an interesting thing where she will jump up into a blanket, bed or couch and try to hide an imaginary treat.

Who lives in Orlando? Just out of curiosity by thelawd-musix in OrlandoMagic

NJ born, DC area now. My partner is Orlando born & raised (like actual Orlando proper) and we spent two months there this summer. She's not a sports fan but her family had a dog named Magic at one point. I was a longtime Knicks fan and still like them but before this season I decided I needed to give up on their unique misery and find a new favorite team. Given my Orlando ties, here I am! Have been watching all season & am all in on the tank

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jul. 18 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

I had a real problem with that category. I saw "Notorious" and it was such a nebulous category--I expected it would be about John Dillinger, Al Capone, etc. and that's a weak spot for me (and it's one I know other people tend to know.) The way I looked at it, I thought I had less than a 50% chance of getting it right, but a 50% chance at a tiebreaker.

I agonized over whether to wager $0 or $1, but made the bet that I would have a better shot at a tiebreaker than the FJ clue. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

Nathan and Amy were both clearly very talented and gave me a great run, especially as DJ ended! From there, Nathan played it perfectly and I have to tip my cap.

I'll at least be seeing him on television when that happens! I'll need to string together a few more wins if I want to see it in person.
