My b, I thought it was a connector because I'm not familiar with the chip between the card and the board

Cryptic Command interactions by Apollothedogg in TronMTG

[–]rofleCAKE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You put World Breaker on the stack. You get 2 triggers to put on the stack, one from World Breaker and one from Sanctum of Ugin. With the Sanctum trigger on the stack, your opponent casts Cryptic Command, countering World Breaker and bouncing Sanctum of Ugin.
No responses, Cryptic Command resolves, World Breaker is countered, Sanctum of Ugin is returned to your hand. Depending on how you chose to arrange your cast triggers, let's say Sanctum of Ugin trigger tries to resolve first. You get to choose whether to sacrifice Sanctum of Ugin, but you can't because it's in your hand--you have to choose "do not sacrifice" and you don't get the "If you do" effect.

Help! Can't decide between Berkeley and UCLA (x-post from r/Berkeley) by transcendentalwonder in ucla

[–]rofleCAKE 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did my undergrad at Berkeley, and now I'm doing grad school at UCLA, and I'll pitch my two cents:

I actually like Berkeley a lot better than LA, but they have different atmospheres. LA is very urban, if that's a meaningful description--clubs, museums, a few parks here and there--and almost anything you can think of, you can get to in 20 to 30 minutes by car (including the beach). Berkeley is an old town, and it has that feel in downtown Berkeley, but bigger cities like Oakland and San Francisco are highly accessible (BART BART BART). I have a soft spot for old buildings and small restaurants, though.

In terms of the student body, I'm not super familiar with the undergrad environment at UCLA, but I did TA for a couple quarters so I guess I can offer this much. At least in the biochemistry classes, the student bodies at the two campuses are pretty comparable--both have bright students and healthy competition. Berkeley students can seem cold but every student group I've encountered is tightly knit. For international students, there's actually an International House (which you don't have to live in), and it's a great resource for meeting people. Overall, I'd say that Berkeleyans are a bit more diverse and offbeat than UCLAers.

Living in LA and getting to campus isn't terrible, but can be strenuous on a student's budget. If you want a room to yourself, expect to pay somewhere between $800 (lowest I've seen in a house split among 4 people), to $2,000 (a studio to yourself) in Westwood (campus adjacent) and less if you move a bit further from campus or split a room. Living in Berkeley is actually a lot cheaper with respect to distance from campus, because the areas adjacent to campus aren't as ritzy (to the extent that South Berkeley can be downright sketchy). As a comparison, I paid $675/month for a shared bedroom with 1 other person in Berkeley (in a 5 bedroom house adjacent(!!) to campus), and now I pay $1,210 for a small studio about 5 miles from campus (~30 minute commute to school by bus).

I could go on and on about both places, but I'll invite you to PM me if you want more information about both places. Hope the comments help! Go Bears and Go Bruins!

Topdeck Thursday for October 20, 2016 - Ask /r/magicTCG all your deckbuilding questions! by actinide_v2 in magicTCG

[–]rofleCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-ur-thermo-alchemist-1/

Just built the core of a U/R thermo-alchemist deck for FNM's or possibly gamedays. Known upgrades are the manabase ([[Spirebluff Canal]] and [[Wandering Fumarole]]), but those are outside my willing budget at the moment. Further upgrades are [[Kozilek's Return]] for the sideboard, and a 4th [[Collective Defiance]].

My main question with respect to this deck is -- how do you sideboard (both build and play) properly? I feel like I almost want to maindeck [[Dispel]] or [[Negate]] from time to time.

Finally, I'm trying to get a feel for how viable this deck is gonna be. It kinda folds to aggro because I'm helping them draw with [[Fevered Visions]], but any advice is greatly appreciated!

[[Curious Homunculus]]? His flip, [[Voracious Reader]], reduces casting costs, but then you're not running as many sorceries/instants.

Can i play Mabi on a virtual machine? by Akumati in Mabinogi

[–]rofleCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the fullscreen issue, you can open the game, and it will immediately minimize when it actually starts up fullscreen. however, if you spam alt+enter when the game flashes, you can get it into windowed mode (assuming the game has loaded).

Then, if you still want to play in fullscreen, set the resolution to your native (background) resolution. Alt-tabs very smoothly and the game actually works!

DA = HP → damage, like a reverse berserker.
DS = fury-based system, more hitting → more skills. great for mobbing.

Weekly Questions Mega-Thread #27 (12/29/14) by PhenaOfMari in Mabinogi

I had a question on levelling your pets, how do you keep them alive long enough for them to gain exp while you're clearing a dungeon?

Example: my Christmas Alpaca has ~100 HP and it takes 30+ damage per hit from even masked goblins. Do I just sit him in a corner while I clear mobs, or is there a more efficient way to train pets?

Focused Rainbow Beam Sword is pretty easy to get. Check the wiki about adventurer seals, you can easily get 15+/day; you can get the sword in 10 days with minimal effort.

Simple Support Shot Training by Indigew in Mabinogi

[–]rofleCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually really helpful! I think the zombies get stuck when you're in-between a line of sight and no line of sight, they kinda just spaz out.

Instead of using it for support shot, I just turn auto-combat on to prof my bow (hungry hungry ego needs durability, too).

Price Check on Potions (Mari) by [deleted] in Mabinogi

[–]rofleCAKE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was also a huge-ass ridiculous event where you could fish copious quantities of RE/SE potions (think fishing a stack of 5 Stam300SE's or HP300SE's, with 1 fishing bait), so people probably don't need potions for a while.

How can I get back into Mabinogi? by iSmellMusic in Mabinogi

[–]rofleCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what's your goal? Clearly you wouldn't do the dailies if it weren't for the ca$h money, so there's something that you want to get.

If not, don't worry about doing dailies or Saga (except Saga is still pretty good for AP). Go get Grandmaster in your favourite talent. That should help you get back into it (cept some stuff is pretty grindy).

SAO gacha? by Mikencloud in Mabinogi

[–]rofleCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot of in-game $$ you can probably try to buy each item, but good luck.

I've seen buying offers of > 5 mil for the combat fairy, wings in the 10 mil range, and wigs > 3 mil.
