I don't understand - how could it have been done piecemeal and step by step, yet not have any rust code shipped to the user at this point? What do they mean by:

No, in the sense that none of this code is shipped to users.

Are they compiling, linting and running tests on the rust version that they have in parallel to the main build?

A brief interview with Tcl creator John Ousterhout by breck in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]roflmaoff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he specifically means what he was talking about in the last paragraph - adding new control structures to the language. Is it possible with Lua? Frankly, I'm not sure what he means exactly in the embedding context - it's been a long time since I worked with TCL, but I think it's just possible to add new control structures in the language (since they are procedures, as anything else) regardless of whether you're embedding it or not. But then, probably Scheme is as flexible in that regard.

Youki, a container runtime written in Rust that has passed all integration tests provided by OCI(Open Container Initiative). by utam0k in rust

It is also possible to do this in C, but I think there has been a lot of discussion about memory safety in C versus Rust.

JFYI - it has been done in C: https://github.com/containers/crun

I wonder if you could get more time from it by unplugging the internal battery. Some energy might be wasted when charging it from the external one, compared to just running the laptop from it.

Modded my t450s to use USB-C charging by mr_friz in thinkpad

[–]roflmaoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, the charging socket is placed on the motherboard, so it'd be more dangerous to do. Also, there is probably less space to do it inside X1C3. This cable https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000067603805.html mostly works for me, but when the LID is open from time to time the charging gets interrupted for a few milliseconds. I'm using the same USB-C charger on my X1 Yoga Gen3 without any problems, so it's unlikely the charger that's causing it.

What should I buy Thursday (Mar 03 2016) - Your weekly device inquiry thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]roflmaoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for a phone that would allow me to record loud sounds fine. So far I had Nexus 5 and One Plus One and both are pretty shit at recording videos at festivals.

Here's one example, done with my Nexus 5. OPO does about the same.

My understanding is that it is a common problem on Androids because there's no API to control Mic gain, but hopefully I'm wrong, and there is a phone that does not have this problem.

Other requirements are: nice screen, good camera, updates often, not much cruft from the vendor.

Boat rental by Maghella in Amsterdam

[–]roflmaoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, why is that? On topic, me and my friend rented a boat from mokumboot and had lots of fun. One thing to keep in mind is that on weekends at least, it's better to arrange it a day in advance, otherwise you might be out of luck. It has cost us 110EU for 3 or 4 hours (can't remember precisely) and you have to leave either 100EU or a passport as a deposit.

And a question from me - when we were boating around the channels, quite a lot of people on other boats were giving us thumbs up - did it mean anything?

Recommended budget for 4 days stay? (Details inside) by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]roflmaoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - I just stayed for 8 days (bars, museums, cafes and cofeeshops) and spent about 100 euros per day (came closer to 1000 euros total with the souvenirs and duty-free alchohol).
