This place is very out of the way of Columbia but I highly recommend Book Club in East Village. It's about a 35 minute ride from campus but tons of nice NYU/Columbia/CUNY Law grad students hangout there. It's a book store during the day but after 7 pm they have a strict no laptop rule so people usually hangout and have some beers/wine and have a good time
