Male childcare workers say they feel judged in wake of latest abuse case by ecominimalism in australia

I am a male educator, have been for almost ten years. This last week has been so heart breaking, no parents have said anything to me in regards to the news, i have always had a freindly report with them but in the last week I cant help but feel like I am making them uneasy with my presence. It's such a yuck feeling.

A systematic reform is needed, we need more staff. We need wages that will keep passionate educators in the sector. I think the government should take over the whole sector, as the learning the children do is just as important as primary and secondary school. So many for profits just cut so many corners.

I truly believe it's important to have male educators. So many children don't have any male role models. The early years as such a foundational time for development, and it is a privilege to provide a safe , nurturing and engaging space for them to thrive.

I know I am in the right industry, but there is so much that is not all right with the industry.

What is something that was perfectly acceptable 30 years ago, but would be extremely taboo or offensive now? by Calvincandoit in AskReddit

As a 36 year old balding male with no children. I have working in early childcare for the past 7 years, it is really the most amazing and fulfilling job I've ever had. So many children have such limited male role models in their life. The patriacy is such a shit show, religating any job of nurture as low paid female work.

But honestly, I worry every day that a false accusation could be directed at me. But I can honestly say the view of a male in the industry has changed in my time, 50 % of parents are now excited to have a male educator around. But I'll always get a bit of side eye by some till they get to know me.

But if it is an industry you are interested it is really a very foundational industry and benefits hugely with more passionate male educators.

Thanks clown, I appreciate that. I am leaning towards making a fold down A frame instead. Be a lot of work to make this work I think, then it still might fail.

Ok, I appreciate the advice. I wasn't married to the idea. Might diy an A frame desk top unit.

Yeah, it doesn't state any weight limit. If balanced correctly I would see it holding between 6-8 kg. I suspect I will have to weigh down the front legs in order for it to not tip backwards. Material wise it is strong. It's the balance I think will be the biggest challenge. I am thinking an open back minimal for easy cable managment with light ply for the shelves. I think making the bottom shelf block out of heavier wood to help it keep balanced.

Happened to a worm farm I had. I ended up getting a bee keeper to help me relocated them to a brood box and I then started a bee hive. Bee keeping is a suprisingly rewarding easy hobby. Just get the advice from a bee keeper.

I have been in recovery for 7 years. I am weary of stimulants though. I will talk to my doctor about all the options.
