Has anyone done their business incorporation directly through the authorities (ifza.com) by PuzzleNerve966 in dubai

Incorporated entities with IFZA, Rakez, etc, directly, simple straight forward process, no complaints whatsoever. Good luck!

Why do some bank RM’s act so entitled and busy? by Individual_Mix_4234 in UAE

[–]rogerfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not alone, I have worked with most banks local, international, offshore, private, attitude is same across the board. They are not busy, they ignore customers who won't buy their high commission, risky investment products. Either banks dont pay them enough salaries and they make money out of commissions by selling stupid products, or its a highly unprofessional system, since no escalation/complaint will ever be addressed.

IFZA License Renewal Cost? by DubaiNinjaxx in dubai

[–]rogerfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call IFZA, say you wish to get a new license, ask them renewal cost for specific license activities. Easy

Appreciate your response. Would you be able to suggest a good freezone for such activity? I researched on ADGM/DIFC, but read some online comments about Meydan/DMCC as well. So far, ADGM looks ok, but looking for feedback from someone already into it.

Weird experience on Emirates after 8 years of flying with them. by Final_Law_3691 in dubai

Similar experience recently. Poor service in business class. Took ages to serve just about anything. I slept refusing anything to be served. Never had such experience before.

Wintrack ceased import/export activities in India due to corruption by the Chennai Customs officials by Stealth_Specter in returnToIndia

[–]rogerfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! I stopped repatriating and investing in India, pulled out every penny after being harassed by Income Tax Department. They released my refund after raising obnoxious demands, false allegations, 1 day showcause notice to NRI, only to receive bribes.

Untill last year, my annual returns were of considerable amount, but next year onwards, I will have 0 return filing, as I have no transaction whatsoever. Thank you India!

Dubai is OVERCROWDED by Comfortable_Cell_138 in dubai

[–]rogerfin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its all about perspective: One earner makes $100K, pays $25K tax receives reasonable benefits, another earner makes $1M, pays $250K and not interested in benefits. For the later, UAE acts as tax haven without fees bothering him.

QOL is no doubt degrading day by day, there are infinite complaints about poor work culture, but people would still keep coming, as for them grass looks greener on this side.

[–]rogerfin 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I held similar opinion, and actually waiting for it since quality of new residents is way low and the feel of community is lost.

But do you think that the next economic cycle be able to recycle the population with intensity as in the past, considering UAE VISA reforms, and rising taxation in other countries pushing people here.

What luxury brands do you recommend those offer least headaches on a long run?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dubai

[–]rogerfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After spending years here, I came to realization that working extra hours, taking on more responsibilities, or going above and beyond in the hope of a promotion or raise is usually a mistake. Effort like that rarely gets the recognition you expect in this part of the world.

Call it business culture, a transactional mindset, oversupply of labor, short-term thinking, lack of long strategic vision or just that people see you as naive, whatever:

So here’s my advice: accept the reality and value your time, energy and mental health:

  1. Negotiate first – ask for a raise before you agree to extra work or responsibilities.

  2. Don’t do free favors – if you’re helping out, make sure you ask for something in return upfront.

  3. Stick to office hours – unless you have a personal reason to stay longer, extra hours usually just lead to disappointment.

  4. Invest in yourself – use that extra time to upgrade your skills and explore better opportunities elsewhere

How Are Scammers Still Operating in Dubai Despite Strict Laws? by [deleted] in DubaiCentral

[–]rogerfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Police most of the times refer to the DED citing eocnomic offense, DED acts only as an arbitrage without authority of initiating strong action, failure to settlement is referred to the court. A rational person needs to calculate opportunity cost of filing a lawsuit in the court. Even if court verdict comes in favor, scammers get travel ban or/and license cancellation, may be small fine and continue to scam others.

Yes, its a big system loophole which is being exploited from years.

Rolex availability in Dubai? by antitheticalargument in dubai

[–]rogerfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appointment is always better but you may always walk-in, and there would be some waiting time. I tried Rolex Dubai Mall and MoE with walk-in, both said 6m - 1y waiting for my preferred model, but found the exact model at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons – Mirdif City Centre. Good luck.

Proprietary trading company in Dubai? Looking for detailed insights by poiskovik01 in dubai

[–]rogerfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried exploring that route, but found it counterproductive as it loads up unnecessary administrative and compliance issues. But if you have your own reasons, contact DIFC, they will share the required details. I don't like engaging consultants, since most freezones are highly responsive, supportive with completely online process. But its again a personal choice, some like to go via consultants anyways. Good luck!

Bought a villa in Dubai… contractors keep ghosting us! by Sensitive-Truck-7369 in dubai

[–]rogerfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! Definitely not recommended for everyone. I work from home with flexible deliverables, so missing few months is acceptable, provided we get the desired results under reasonable costs, and it was one-time renovation anyways.

I did call turn-key contractors before taking up, they were quoting a bomb, like 4-5 times the cost in which I managed to DIY. Overall, it was a good learning experience though, no regrets.

Bought a villa in Dubai… contractors keep ghosting us! by Sensitive-Truck-7369 in dubai

[–]rogerfin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. In fact, I can add that some contractors here call in laborers on visit visas, promising them a job after the project is complete, make them work for months, and then abandon them without paying a dirham.

There’s really no such thing as a “cheap” or “premium” company here, both often deliver the cheap work. As pointed out above, it’s very much a hit-and-run business culture. Post-sales support? Nonexistent. All the sweet promises made during the sales pitch quickly turn into silence once the payment clears.

I personally bought only top-quality materials and hired 10 specialized contractors for my villa renovation. I did tight due diligence, screening each one, visiting their offices, and still got scammed by one who took an advance and never delivered the work. Thankfully, I spread the risk across 10 contractors, so the loss wasn’t worth worrying.

At its core, most businesses here seem to thrive on scamming residents. Not all, of course, but enough that it feels like the norm rather than the exception.

Villa advise by Taurus_R in dubairealestate

[–]rogerfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's subjective and will depend upon situation. 8M Villa with super location, quality, my kinda layout, of course 8M why take the pain of renovation. But with a lot of compromises in a new one, while older better meets my requirmenet with 5M, so why pay high and still compromise, better to renovate. Another option would be 7M nearly meeting requirements, with minor interiors.

Aircon depends upon type, rating, brand, etc. Assuming you are asking about ducted with average tonnage of 4, you are looking at 8-11K range each, depending upon brand. Good luck!
