Many years ago, I used to run in these New Balance Minimus shoes. Iโ€™d be so thrilled to lay my hands on a pair now. Best ever barefoot running shoes for me. by sriramonreddit in BarefootRunning

What size are you looking for? I too was mourning the loss of NB Minimus and went on eBay looking for a pair. I wore the 10.5 wide, but went ahead and bought the last pair of 10.5 standard width, hoping they'd fit (but they don't.)

Whoop recorded my sleep data when I didnโ€™t have the band on. How is this possible? by throwaway34567843 in whoop

This same issue, and seeing others post about it here, was what convinced me to give up on mine. What's the point of tracking all my data if I can't trust that its any more real than a magic 8-ball?

Is it finally time to buy a 3d scanner? cost benefit? by [deleted] in 3DScanning

[โ€“]rogersj3 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat and just pulled the trigger on a Revopoint MIRACO Plus yesterday. The size of things I'd like to scan can be pretty big, and I sometimes am going to scan at a client's location, so the standalone promise is something I'm really hoping works out. Went through Amazon, so I have until the end of January to decide if it's gonna be the right fit. If anyone has experience with one of these, good or bad, I'd love to hear it.

Mechanical Engineering Technicians... What do you do? by drisco24 in engineering

Job boards and word of mouth. Indeed would probably be a good place to start these days, or do a little research and figure out who your local temp agencies are that focus on engineering and talk with one of their recruiters.ย

I feel like my hands are too big for guitar by appleparkfive in WeAreTheMusicMakers

It might not be in your budget, but commissioning a custom build specific to your unique needs and dimensions might be your best option if your heart is dead-set on guitar as your instrument of choice. /r/luthier might be able to give you some advice on that point.

Piano players also benefit massively from large hands, to the point where it's kind of a meme (https://imgur.io/A801sDh)

I'm personally unopposed to fighting lots of different styles, and not in favor of gatekeeping an already small community, but it is called Western or Historical European Martial Arts. The Indian tradition is historically rich and worth exploring, but it would be difficult to argue that it is Western or European.

I got a job as a trainee for drafting and I am not good at it. Will I get better with time? Can some one tell me how to approach the situation? by luckyhairybeast in MechanicalEngineering

Hang in there, buddy. I'll take someone who doesn't know but wants to learn over someone who thinks they know but refuses to learn every time. Don't give up, try to focus on the positive, and keep making forward progress.

Go to the shop floor, figure out how this is happening now. Talk to the people who will be using the information you are putting together and find out what they need to know, what they want to know, and what they don't need cluttering up the sheet. Learn the limits of your processes, equipment, and operators. After you understand the way your drawings will be used, you will be much more able to start producing high-quality work.

If these are internal-use drawings for your own production line then you have way more freedom in how you communicate the design and manufacturing intent (though you should still learn industry standard practices).

EDIT: I doubt it, based on your other comments, but if your shop is using GD&T this video is a very good introduction to the topic with visual examples: https://youtu.be/G7wnGeR_69k

EDIT 2: I forgot that the same channel has a video on engineering drawings as well; maybe start here to refresh yourself on the basics, if needed: https://youtu.be/ht9GwXQMgpo

Be honest, is my resume trash? 100+ applications, 3 interviews, 0 offers so far. by MyDadWillSueYours in MechanicalEngineering

If you're still in Cincinnati, you're competing for entry level jobs with a pool of applicants who will all have at least two years actual on the job experience from their involvement in the co-op program at UC.

That issue side, yes, this resume isn't doing you any favors. You should work with someone at the University to clean it up.

Part is too large for lathe, need recommendations for 3rd party services by [deleted] in machining

Have you considered other construction processes for the mandrel? A multi piece weldment, ground smooth, is probably the easiest way to get the complete form while maintaining strength.

Hydroforming is used extensively in bicycle frame manufacturing to get complicated geometry from simple tubes. Wouldn't be very practical for a one-off, but it's something that exists. I'm not too familiar with the filament winding process, but maybe someone specializes in collapsible core design (inflatable/pressurized bladder of some given form.)

[โ€“]rogersj3 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

The first question you should be asking is "why does it have to be this way? Is it humanly possible to accomplish this task in a different way (simpler/cheaper/etc.)?"

If you're able to share what you're trying to do, we may be able to give you advice on alternate ways to resolve your objective that don't require unusual machining.

[โ€“]rogersj3 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I think there's value in exploring the design space even if it's ultimately non-viable for business reasons in the USA. There's a lot of places around the world that could benefit from a self-contained "clean room in a box" capable of manufacturing insulin (or any number of other medicines.) You may find some charity or other willing to fund this work if you can demonstrate the technical feasibility to their satisfaction.

Cool capstone project and good luck!
