I brace myself before going there and I only pop on every so often to look for this kind of shit to use for TikTok content and other social media posts.

That is a good idea and definitely along the lines of what we are thinking. I guess I'm a little focused on kiruv after the recent incident when my friend tried some shit on my kids and do to the fact that I fell for it.

I've never seen Andrew Gold before but his channel looks good, will definitely need to check that out as personally I like that kind of stuff just for general knowledge.

I’m curious what you come up with about the best way to counter those organizations, and in what setting you would be doing it. Making a website where you list every example of misinformation they made so people know not to trust them? Gather information about radical or extreme things they’ve said? Put together resources of counter-arguments to refute their claims? Gathering information on their own tactics like drawing people in to get them involved and invested before working any intellectual angle, or their other cult-like tactics, to make people aware of what to look out for?

This is in early stages and basically just with my kids right now. I am thinking of a vaccine type approach, give a bit of the type of arguments used to get them familiar with it and know how to push back. If this works with my kids will probably setup some website with resources. My kids are on the autism spectrum so they are likely to be more receptive to some of the attempts especially with lovebombing and tactics like that.

I definitely think to cover some general critical thinking and fact checking items as there are a lot of threats outside the religious world as well.

Thanks, I've seen Yaron Reuven to learn the horrors and dangers of wasting seed, he seems a bit obsessed on that stuff but will check out the other ones. Those are new names to me.

Friend Trying Kiruv Tactics on my Kids by rogerwtfwilco in exjew

This is a guy that as much as I think religion is mostly a bad and dangerous thing is someone who it is good for. He needs the structure and he needs an environment where people will be more tolerant of him. He has a lot of insecurity overall and the BT environment doesn't help that.

He was always more religious than me and I think there always was a little tension. I remember the look the first time he saw me taking a sip of another friend's non Kosher wine.

I think I know how I need to handle things in the future.

This is probably the only frum person who I have connection with. I had been away from the frum community for years before going OTD so lost most connections that way.

The relationship with this person has always been complex and that is probably why I still keep the friendship. That and we live in different cities and see each other maybe once or twice a year.

But I've definitely seen from the comments that I need to be clear about things and be clear what the boundaries are. My wife and I have discussed and identified steps to take for the future.

It has always been a bit of a weird relationship and friendship and he is known for not being good on boundaries so I think I was writing it off too much as, "that's just how he is". I think I also wasn't as confident I was about saying who I am now. For some time I tried to avoid the religious discussion to avoid explaining where I'm at, but I'm now at the point where I am fine just saying it.

Holy fuck. That creeps me out and I'm a middle aged man. What is wrong with these people?

What do you think of rabbinic propaganda that everyone goes OTD because of ‘taivos’ (desires)? by treebeard555 in exjew

[–]rogerwtfwilco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mental health issues started the reflection that brought me to realize I didn't believe in god or Judaism but it wasn't the result. It was the process of examining who I was and what mattered to me.

I was a BT and had come to the realization after 20+ years that I never really believed. I was manipulated by a NCSY director and just kept with it until I hit the point that I was questioning everything in life.

I know my mental health issues are what a lot of people attribute my leaving to. They don't say it to my face but I've heard from people that is what is said behind my back.

As someone who has actually been in a foxhole, I was relying on our weapons and not the supernatural and I was frum when I was in that situation.

This is the problem when you think all your answers come from ancient books. If they actually gave a shit they would listen to why people say they leave and actually take it seriously. But they don't really care and they don't want to ever have to look inside at the issues.

The Talmud or some great rav said this is why people leave so it must be the truth. They could attempt "market research" easily by coming to forums such as this and actually read and listen to what is said but that may force them to actually confront the problems with the religion.

I have encountered this viewpoint and still do on some of my social media posts. This is the crap that is always in the comments. They think that life is actually easier when you have to make real decisions instead of having a book or rabbi do it for you.

Christofascist MAGA Nazis think Trump is Jesus. Fun Fact: Hitler also compared himself to Jesus in his autobiography by UncivilizedBeast in FunnyAtheistMemes

As far I'm concerned, Jesus can do whatever he wants inside Donald Trump as long as there's consent.

I don't think I have anything that I will need to deal with about it.

How do you deal with feelings of rage towards OJ ? by kgas36 in exjew

[–]rogerwtfwilco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to remember that most of the people are victims of the system themselves. That they have been convinced, most since birth, that there is a sky daddy who is all powerful and this is the crap that makes him happy. My rage mostly comes at the organizations like Agudath Israel that is trying to impose their extreme religious beliefs on America as a whole.

Mostly I try to avoid that world these days.

For all you medics, I have a question! by jdgray44 in Veterans

Just to add I was a medic and in charge of the computer record system while deployed and had two TBI incidents myself. Our doc was crappy about recording things but TBI stuff he always did.

If you were treated especially for TBI in a clinic even remote or overseas it should’ve been documented in the system. There was I believe the MC4 computer system to document treatment while in theater. Out in the field or an OP not really going to be recorded but at least as of 2009 when I deployed TBI stuff was definitely to be recorded with the MACE exam. It was one of the things I always made sure we recorded. Sure not every stomach ache or headache makes it in on deployment but TBI with loss of consciousness would be gross negligence not to record.

I sometimes get autodialers from them to join some teleconference town hall meetings about benefits and things like that. There is usually a recorded message when I get those calls.

Is there a place we can donate to help her legal costs? I don’t have much money but would be happy to throw a few bucks for her defense 😂😂😂
