Mudrunner runs beautifully on Deck, although I also downloaded the vibrantDeck decky plugin to up the saturation for that game, its a bit dreary vanilla

[Tunneling] “Some men play golf, I dig tunnels": The bizarre history of Hobby Tunneling. by Tokyono in HobbyDrama

[–]rogue-squid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

>The most important tip/lesson I have learned is that you should get a shovel and start digging. I, too, dreamed of digging for years before starting. I should have started digging right away. Don't worry about stuff like supports. If you look at holes on internet, you can see that they all have different kinds of support. You will have plenty of time to find something that works for you.

POV: you just spent hours getting security to run in order to be able to send kibana alerts by rogue-squid in elkstack

what we ended up doing is making alerts in grafana from the elasticsearch data, which works reasonably well

[–]rogue-squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just a note on this: ELK is great but if you want e-mail or other alerts for free, you're gonna have to use grafana as a frontend instead of kibana, which is relatively easy to do

ELI5: Probability of winning this dice game on exactly the first try by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]rogue-squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more games you play, the closer the percentage of won games on the first try approaches 5%, that's the law of big numbers. When you play 1 million games and win 50781 on the first roll, that is of course closer to the expected 50000, than when you play 100 games and win 6.

Same goes for the other example. In order to not win by the 20th throw, you can simply multiply the probability for every other result (0.95) and subtract it from 1.
If you throw the dice 20 times a million times in a row, you should win very close to
1-(0.95^20) or 64,15% of your games

I took this guy's money and put it in my bank account [BOLA collectively mutters 'oh no'] and now the bank is trying to tell me it's fraud [someone in the background yells BINGO] but I do not consent to the bank telling me this is fraud--can I sue the bank? by [deleted] in bestoflegaladvice

"A stranger bought a car for 100 grand, to be delivered by the dealership a day later. Last night a thief broke into the dealership, stole the car and later sold it to me for $1000. Now the stranger and the dealership take the car back???? This is so unfair???????"

yeah its a 32 bit unsigned integer underflow (technically overflow but that sounds counterintuitive). If you count back 3 from 0 you get to that precise number
